This is a coordinated position that will provide access to all students and support services to students with hearing impairments which may include facilitating communication between students with hearing impairments and their hearing peers, faculty and other personnel. The candidate will coordinate Interpreters and provides access services in the classroom setting for class related activities, college sponsored events, department faculty meetings and prospective students.SCOPE/DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is responsible for coordinating accessibility services and accommodations for all students with disabilities, including coordinating communication access services such as sign language interpreters, captioning, and other support services. This classification is distinguished from interpreting classifications in that the Access Coordinator does not provide interpreting services and does not require interpreter certification or licensure. However, knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with interpreter services and Deaf culture are required to effectively coordinate communication access services and support students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Understand standards of practice/Code of Professional Conduct established by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) and standard practices in interpreting/transliterating at the post-secondary level Essential Functions 30% Conduct assessments to determine the needs of students with disabilities and provides access for deaf students. Develop and implement individualized support plans Advocate for student rights and access to services. Coordinate with other healthcare and service providers. Provide consultation and guidance to student and their families. Assist students in accessing educational and employment opportunities. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of support plans. Stay updated with standards of practice/Code of Professional Conduct established by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID) and current laws and regulations related to disabilities. Organize and facilitate workshops and training sessions. Maintaining detailed records and documentation of student interactions, provide guidance and consultation regarding allowable, reasonable accommodations in accordance with Federal and State law, The Rehabilitation Act, the ADA, and MCCD Policy and Procedure. 30% Provides academic accommodations to an assigned caseload of students, to support student learning, persistence, and degree completion. Provides onboarding and retention strategies, and holistic student success support to students. Implements Guided Pathways framework to program advice by acting as the primary liaison. Connecting students with academic and personal resources like tutoring, counseling, and career services. Provides ongoing, proactive outreach and follow up to ensure student learning and progress outcomes are met. Tracks caseload data and identifies at-risk students. 30% Assists with the development and delivery of training and professional development to the college community on topics related Federal and State law, the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA, and MCCD Policy and Procedure, Disability Resources and Support Services, and accommodation. Develops, maintains, and delivers presentations as necessary or workshops for assigned caseload. Coordinates, implements, and evaluates DRS processes and procedures. Makes recommendations for program improvements and accommodation recommendations using evidence-based assessments and strategies. 10% Continues to update on new assistive technology services, disability law, and service provision. Provides program management and coordination which may include operational planning or assessment. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. Desired Qualifications A. Knowledge of the Rehabilitation act, Guided pathways, and the ADA B. Two (2) or more years of experience providing professional-level academic advisement/academic accommodations for students with disability in a college or university setting C. One (1) or more years of experience accessing, entering, and maintaining student data from a student information system such as Banner, Peoplesoft, or Degree Works D. Experience developing and delivering group presentations, trainings, or workshops E. Experience implementing student success strategies to increase persistence, retention, & completion rates of post-secondary education students F. Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with interpreter services and Deaf culture are required to effectively coordinate communication access services and support students who are deaf or hard of hearing. G. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years. Special Working Conditions Standard work schedule varies during the year: August through mid-May:
Monday- Friday, 8 hour days; mid-May through the end of
July:
Monday- Thursday, 10 hour days Required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor May be required to travel or be assigned to another MCCD location Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense MCC does not sponsor individuals for work visas
