OCEAN BEACH SCHOOL DISTRICT

Rate:
$21.98 per hour Work site: District Wide. Substitute employment is on-call, based upon district need.
BASIC FUNCTION
Perform cleaning and housekeeping work. Work assignments may vary as the employee becomes familiar with the equipment and facilities.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the building principal, assigned duties require knowledge of cleaning and housekeeping work, cleaning tools and chemicals required to maintain a clean school. The custodian will be expected to be skilled in first line basic maintenance and possess a level of health that will permit lifting and other manual tasks.
TYPICAL WORK
Use power equipment and hand tools required for the cleaning and general maintenance of buildings. Responsible for minor maintenance repairs and cleanliness of all parts of the facility. (See regarding minor repair) May be required to open buildings and prepare them for use; maintain building security when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and unauthorized occupants. Clean sidewalks and driveways; help maintain campus grounds. Read and follow written instructions, service orders and labels on chemicals and supplies. Cooperate with other custodians in an effort to achieve district goals. Perform such other tasks as prescribed by the Supervisor.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy in evaluation of all employees. Requirements of employment with Ocean Beach School District as a regular or substitute custodian: 1. Safety training and
HIV/AIDS
training sessions at the earliest possible time. New employees will be required to complete a Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint background check (at employee's expense) as a condition of employment. 2. Current Washington State driver's license. 3. High School Diploma or equivalent
CUSTODIAL / MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITIES REGARDING MINOR REPAIR
Job tasks involve basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, handsaw, hammer, shovel, small hand power tools, etc. Minor door repair - adjust latches, closures, tighten loose locks, strikes, adjust/install replacement components and parts, lubricate door parts, install hasps and padlocks. Secure safety zone around glass areas where broken. Clean areas of broken glass and install cardboard or plywood over broken glass area. Replace light bulbs and protective covers. Replace ceiling tiles and minor floor tile repair. Repair minor trap and water connection leaks; adjustment of water flow regulators; unplug clogged sinks and toilets. Repair/replace sports affiliated fixtures; goals, nets, baskets, minor replacement parts and lubrication of affiliated fixtures. Locker repair requiring replacement of locker parts, sides, shelves, doors and lubrication of locker parts. Cleaning and lubrication of all bleacher components. Minor repair of furniture; leg replacement, table adjustment, lubrication of moving parts. Cleaning of all heating and air exchange intake and exterior grids. Installation of movie screen, maps, associated hangers and hooks. Repair/replace and/or adjust shades and curtains and install replacement associated parts. Paint and refinish floors, walls, ceilings, and woodwork. Maintain all custodial used power equipment as recommended by the manufacturer; ie., vacuums, buffers, scrubbers, blowers, etc. Maintain all parking areas; control debris on campus, weed and clean along all curbs, flower pots, planted areas, etc. Adjust, clean, lubricate and do minor repairs on all playground equipment, to include regularly scheduled safety checks as outlined by the building principal or supervisor. Clean exterior of buildings; spot paint as needed. Assist in obtaining material and equipment for own building usage, ie., special programs, plays, concerts, public meetings, etc. When requesting purchases, follow correct ordering procedures for associated supplies, small tools and parts. Carry out additional custodial maintenance duties as directed by the Principal or Supervisor. Physical and Environmental Requirements of the

Employee may be required to work in restricted spaces to include crawling and/or climbing as working at heights. Required to stand, be on fee, and move around for a full work shift. Ability to work using ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts and district vehicles. Ability to spend most of the work-day standing, lifting, and walking. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee is required to use properly such safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self of others. Ability to communicate in person, by radio, electronically and over the phone. Ability to use computer equipment to complete reports, generated service orders, maintain inventories, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious material or illnesses during the course of their duties.
