Primary Purpose:

Provide assistance in classroom, office, and/or school facilities under the direct supervision of a certified teacher or employee of HISD. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing activities.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

At least 16 years of age High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate Have met formal academic assessment, NCCER and/or OSHA preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work well with children and adults Ability to communicate effectively

Experience:

Some experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Support Provide assistance to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups. Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays. Assist with administration and objective work assignments. Help maintain a neat and orderly workplace. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment. Help keep administrative records and prepare required reports. Provide orientation and assistance to HISD employee assigned. Management Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. Make the supervisor aware of the special needs or problems of individual students and adults. Other Participate in training programs to improve job performance. Participate in meetings and special events as assigned. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Other duties as assigned.
