Job Description

POSITION TITLE
:

POSITION SUMMARY
Counselors are the primary leaders for a group of campers, responsible for creating a safe, fun, and faith-filled camp experience. Counselors supervise campers throughout the day, lead activities, and model Christ-centered leadership in all aspects of camp life.

Through relationship-building, play, and worship, counselors support the physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of campers while fostering an inclusive Christian community rooted in care and respect.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age and have graduated from high school. Demonstrated ability or strong interest in working with children and youth in group settings, including activities such as facilitation, small-group leadership, teaching, recreation, camp crafts, and basic athletic or hands-on skills. Willingness and ability to work in a variety of settings and situations, including outdoor environments, changing schedules, and varying group dynamics. Flexibility and adaptability, including willingness to travel and relocate to different host sites on a weekly basis during the summer season. Interest in outdoor living and experiential learning; willingness to participate in outdoor activities and learn new skills. Ability to support faith-based programming in a respectful, grace-filled manner; openness to participating in prayer, storytelling, and values-based conversations with campers. Personal qualities including enthusiasm, creativity, initiative, reliability, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and grow as a leader. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, maintaining professionalism and positive communication.
Prerequisite:
Availability and commitment to attend 10 days of required staff training prior to the start of the summer season.
RESPONSIBLE TO
The Executive Director and Program Director regarding application and employment, training, work assignments, and personnel policies. The Executive Director and Program Director, as assigned, regarding on-site camp and day camp programming. The Day Camp Leader in all matters related to day camp program activities.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide supervision and care to campers through program leadership. Participate fully in all camp activities, including program planning, staff meetings, and camper group activities. Maintain responsible awareness of the health and safety needs of all campers. Practice good stewardship of camp facilities and equipment. Understand and uphold Mt. Cross' mission and policies. Model a positive Christian influence and remain attentive to campers' spiritual needs.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead a small group of campers (up to 10), assuming responsibility for group life and activities. Teach and engage campers consistently Be present and available to campers throughout the day Provide responsible overnight supervision of campers, including evening routines, nighttime safety, and morning readiness Help campers plan and use time meaningfully, including arriving on time to all scheduled activities. Assist campers in planning and participating in activities Carry out administrative responsibilities carefully and efficiently Interpret the camp program, philosophy, and practices Get to know each camper quickly and show genuine care and enthusiasm Teach stewardship and care for shared property and facilities Foster respect for each individual and provide a safe environment for questions and exploration Lead daily devotions with the camper group Work collaboratively, respectfully, and professionally with fellow counselors and summer staff, contributing to a healthy and supportive staff community. Communicate concerns, observations, and needs promptly and appropriately to supervisory staff. Model positive conflict resolution, flexibility, and teamwork in all interactions with campers and staff. Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and activity contribute to the team by following through on tasks without needing to be prompted or relying on others to step in. Work collaboratively with pastors and congregational leaders, supporting their involvement and helping them have a positive camp experience.
EMPLOYMENT DETAILS
: This is a seasonal position. Counselors are expected to be available for the full camp season (May 31-July 31), including training and all assigned camp sessions. Full attendance throughout the following camp weeks is required: Staff training: May 31-June 9, 2026 On-site camp sessions: June 10-July 3, 2026 Traveling day camp sessions: July 5-31, 2026
COMPENSATION :
$425 per 6-day work week + housing and meals. Full-time exempt camp counselor 3 paid sick days

: Counselors are trained and supported by the Program Director and Executive Director.
