$14 per hour Position Summary The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for overseeing and leading activities for campers. This is an active, outdoor role that involves engaging with children, following lesson plans and helping create a fun, safe and memorable camp experience. Supervision Received Reports to Parks and Recreation Director Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversees campers and ensure a safe, positive environment. Lead daily activities and follow established lesson plans. Promote camper participation in all activities. Assist with set-up and take-down of camp activities. Serve as a positive role model with staff and campers. Participate in counselor training sessions. Accept responsibility, make decisions when needed and work collaboratively with other staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or GED diploma. Must be 18 years or older. Experience working with children or youth. Strong communication skills and the ability to read and write effectively. Excellent customer service skills. Organized, responsible, friendly, enthusiastic and willing to learn. First Aid and Child/Adult CPR certified (or ability to obtain). Concern for campers social and emotional development. Specialties in arts, crafts, dance, sports or music are a plus. Necessary Special Requirements Ability to pass a drug screen, physical and background check. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to observe and interact with children and adults alike. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and or/ move up to 50 pounds.
