Job Description

Kamp Kiwanis, in upstate New York, offers a unique Kamp experience for campers ages 8-14, a CIT/Teen program for teens ages 15-17 and for adults with high functioning special needs ages 18+. The child program at Kamp is designed to mainstream all kampers including up to 20 each session with special needs. We want our Kampers to explore the world through environmental and cultural activities while respecting the rights and dignity of all kampers and staff. Kampers and staff work together to build self-esteem and cooperative peer relationships. Kamp Kiwanis offers a special place for self-discovery, laughter, fun and personal growth. Through small group interactions, kampers have the opportunity to learn more about themselves and others as well as increase their self-confidence. By offering positive role models and challenging activities, we foster kampers' development of new skills and respect for the community. SUMMARY The Summer Camp Director is responsible for the overall supervision and direction of the summer camp program at Kamp Kiwanis in coordination with the Executive Director and other summer leadership staff including scheduling, program planning, and summer staff supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Camp Responsibilities :
Coordinate with Executive Director to order and pick up necessary supplies for summer camp program. Coordinate with Executive Director to make sure all required paperwork is complete and neatly organized prior to beginning of summer camp season. Along with Executive Director and other summer leadership staff, coordinate necessary arrival/departure transportation of summer staff. Along with Executive Director and other summer leadership staff, plan and implement appropriate and engaging staff training program for summer staff.
Supervision:
Attend and participate in staff meetings to communicate necessary information to camp staff o Develop schedule of activities and events to be provided to summer staff. Conduct ongoing supervision and evaluation of summer program staff including Unit Leaders, Activity Counselors, and General Counselors Provide feedback and suggestions to summer staff, as able and needed. Communicate information with camper parents, as necessary. Maintain all required camp documentation in accordance with Department of Health and American Camp Association requirements and standards. Assess risk management of all programs and facilities . Along with Executive Director and other summer leadership staff, assist with closing of camp at end of summer camp season.
Administrative Duties:
Document and report any incidents/injuries to Executive Director and/or Health Director. Report needed repairs in writing to Camp Ranger. Maintain inventory of supplies. Work with Executive Director on recommendations for changes.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Ability to supervise staff and campers. Ability to meet the public. NY State Driver's License preferred. Ability to plan, originate, organize, and carry out daily and special programs. Good character, integrity, and adaptability. Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control. Desire to work and live in a camp community 24 hrs. a day during summer camping Season and on other occasions. • Bachelor's Degree OR 25-years-old or older, per NY DOH requirements. At least 24 weeks of administrative or supervising experience in camping, per NY DOH requirements.
CERTIFICATION
Maintain certification in first aid issued by the American Red Cross or a certification determined by the State Commissioner of Health to provide adequate first aid training. Or ability to obtain prior to camp. Maintain certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), not exceeding one year in duration, issued by the American Red Cross or a certification determined by the State Commissioner of Health to provide an adequate level of CPR training. Or ability to obtain prior to camp.
