Job Description

About the Opportunity The Minnesota JCC seeks seasonal Health Coordinators for the 2026 summer camp season. The Camp Health Coordinator is responsible for supervising health services and providing medical care to campers and staff on site at Camp Butwin, a day camp located on 88 wooded acres in Eagan, MN or at Camp Olami, a day camp located in St. Louis Park, MN.
Daily Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8-hour daily shifts, earliest arrival is 8:30am and latest departure is 4:30pm. May include evenings and weekends as needed.
Base Compensation:
$130/day (based on an 8-hour workday). Plus opportunities for additional pay/bonuses. Essential Functions Responsible for the health care of children and staff in camp. This includes the treatment of minor injuries and contacting the appropriate people in case of a more serious injury. In the event of a medical emergency, the Health Coordinator is the person in charge of the situation in consultation with the Camp Director until EMS or other more qualified personnel arrive. Responsible for the management and disbursement of all medications in accordance with prescribed instructions and camp policies, including preparation of medications for trips and overnights. Responsible for all medical records. Keeping and maintaining health records at camp and at the JCC. Checking to make sure each camper has a medical form and notifying parents of missing forms. Assist in preparing a pre-camp orientation about first aid and emergency procedures to train staff in camp medical and emergency procedures. Maintaining contact with parents regarding ongoing care (medication) and first aid treatment at camp. Responsible for assisting with office duties (i.e. answering phone, taking messages) when it does not interfere with medical concerns. Assist in maintaining attendance procedures and bussing information and related phone calls to maintain up to date records. Attend family nights, open house, pre-camp administration meetings, in-camp meetings and staff parties at the discretion of the Camp Director. Responsible to continuously evaluate medical area to provide the best possible care. Review and prepare a confidential list of all medical/health concerns regarding campers and staff. Relay important information to staff as deemed necessary prior to camper arrival. Assist and complete other administrative tasks as requested by the Camp Director. Check, fill, and issue first aid kits for trips outside of camp and for around camp in necessary locations. Weekly check-ins with Camp Director to assess ongoing health needs and concerns of camp population. Work closely with the inclusion department to ensure the health and safety of all campers and staff based on all needs.
Minimum Qualifications Education/Certifications:
State of Minnesota Nursing License or Nursing Assistant Certification preferred, current CPR/AED and First Aid, and a valid Driver's License. Minimum of 21 years of age.
Experience:
Experience working with children and young adults preferred. At least one year of experience in the field is preferred.
Camp-Specific Skills:
Able to proactively observe and comment on medical or health hazards related to camp-grounds or programming. Comfortable communicating with a variety of individuals, campers, staff, and parents. Comfortable assessing and redirecting inappropriate/unsafe camper or staff behavior if necessary. Able to lift/assist campers or staff up to 50 LBS. Calm under pressure, flexible, and comfortable multitasking. Fun-loving individuals with a desire to work in a camp environment preferred. Abuse Risk Management Adhere to policies related to boundaries with participants Attend required abuse risk management training Adhere to procedures related to managing high risk activities and supervising participants Report inappropriate behaviors and policy violations Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to verbally communicate with others. In the work setting, this is primarily an active role, which requires the employee to move around regularly. Additional physical requirements include lifting and moving items up to 25 lbs., standing, crouching, reaching.
