Summer Counselor for 2-Week Recreation Program

Job Overview•Flying Point Foundation for Autism We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our summer rec team. This role involves supervising and engaging with children that are diagnosed with Autism & their typical developing siblings and peers, in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children, possess strong communication skills, and be capable of fostering a positive experience. Prior experience in childcare, teaching, or related fields such as classroom management, early childhood education, or sports coaching is highly valued. As a Program Counselor, you will play a vital role in creating memorable experiences while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. Responsibilities Supervise and engage children (ages 6-21) in various indoor & outdoor activities, including arts and crafts, sports, theater, and special guests Ensure the safety of all children by monitoring their activities and maintaining boundaries/rules Facilitate group activities that promote teamwork, leadership, and personal development Provide guidance and support to children with diverse needs, including those requiring special education or behavior management strategies. The majority of our group are autistic individuals. Assist with daily program routines such as meal times, rest periods, and transitions between activities Maintain a positive environment through effective classroom management and behavior management techniques Administer basic first aid when necessary and respond appropriately to emergencies Communicate regularly with supervisors and with parents or guardians regarding children's progress or concerns Collaborate with other staff members to plan and execute special activities, events and projects. Requirements Prior experience working with children in settings such as daycare, preschool, tutoring, or summer camps is preferred Knowledge of childhood development principles and behavior management strategies Certification in first aid and CPR is highly desirable but not mandatory Strong classroom management skills and the ability to foster a supportive environment for children of various ages Experience in specialized areas such as general/special education, sports coaching, theater/arts, or is a plus Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team Passion for working with children and creating engaging educational experiences Ability to handle multiple responsibilities with patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism Join our team as a Group Counselor to make a positive impact on children's lives while gaining valuable experience in education, childcare, or youth development.

Program Hours:

9am-2pm. Staff Hours are staggered from 8am•3pm. All staff must work hours 9am•2pm.
