Job Description
Qualifications 1. Must have valid driver's license and be able to obtain a driving record. 2. Must be 18 years of age or high school graduate. 3. Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR. 4. Must submit health history record and examination form prior to first day of work. 5. Ability to interact with all age levels. Responsibilities 1. General Expectations Recognize and respect differences in race, ethnicity, religion, traditions, and other cultural factors, and understand how these can impact clients' experiences and needs. Understand how poverty, wealth, or economic hardship can impact clients' needs and experiences Avoid bias, stereotypes, or judgment when providing services d. Tailor communication and support to the unique context of each client or community 2. Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of students in Summer Program Activities throughout the Summer Program camp in order to meet the intended outcomes. Apply basic developmental principles in working with students through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth. Assure students are properly supervised at all times. c. Be aware of and implement safety guidelines. 3. Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for students within the mission and outcomes. Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities. Actively participate in all program areas as assigned. Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities. Assist in program areas such as water sports, nature, arts and crafts, and various other activities as directed. 4. Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for students and staff. Provide the daily care of each student within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs. Be alert to students needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems, and discuss with Director of Recreation and/or Campus Life Director when appropriate. Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to Director of Recreation and/or Campus Life Director. 5. Be a role model to students and staff in your attitude and behavior. Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures. Set a good example to students and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship. 6.
Other Job Duties:
Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned. Participate as a member of the campus staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-campus activities and campus functions. Assist in the planning of any special events. Identify other tasks or duties that this position may be expected to perform but are not necessarily the primary focus of this position.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Understand the development needs of youth. Ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in program areas designated campus program areas. Physical Aspects of theJob:
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to students. Ability to observe students' behaviors, evaluates its appropriateness, enforce correct safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers. Physical Requirements 1. The position requires physical stamina and the ability to work in an active camp environment, including: Prolonged standing, walking long distances, bending, stooping, climbing, hiking, and stretching Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate outdoor equipment and participate in camp activities Normal visual and auditory abilities to observe, record, and communicate effectively with students and staff Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Willingness to live in a campus setting and work irregular hours with minimal equipment and rustic facilities Daily exposure to outdoor elements such as sun, heat, and varying weather conditionsJob Types:
