About the District The Ishpeming Public School District is a rural district located in the heart of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
The District includes:
 Birchview Elementary School (Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 4)  Ishpeming Middle/High School (Grades 5-12)  Ishpeming-NICE-Negaunee Alternative School (I.N.N.) (Grades 9-12)  Hema-Tyke Childcare and Education Center (Birth through Age 4) The District serves approximately 620 students, not including students enrolled in the Childcare Center or those attending cooperative programs from neighboring districts. Our schools provide a safe, clean, and well-maintained learning environment. We are a small district, offering a variety of curricular opportunities designed to meet the diverse needs of all students. Our facilities are in very good condition, and the community continues to invest in their improvement. Voters recently approved a bond proposal totaling approximately $3.7 million to support district upgrades. Planned improvements include a new concession stand at the athletic fields, upgraded locker rooms and athletic storage areas, renovated tennis courts, and an addition at Birchview Elementary to expand storage space. The most notable characteristic of the Ishpeming Public School District is its supportive, accepting, and collaborative culture. Our outstanding staff and exceptional students contribute to a strong "Hematite Family" atmosphere. This environment reflects the District's mission: to prepare all students for lifelong success with the support of their Hematite family.
