Job Description

Overview Assists the Safety and Security Leader to manage the Safety and Security program for UnityPoint Health to achieve specific operational, quality, safety, security, service and financial goals while providing a safe and secure environment for visitors, patients, physicians and staff. Assists with the hiring, termination, daily staffing, performance management and staff development while building positive customer relationships and utilizing open communication. Responsible for conducting quality audits with customers and developing improvement strategies for increasing customer satisfaction. Responds to disaster and/or emergencies, both internal and external, while working in collaboration and cooperation with the Safety and Security Leader at UnityPoint Health. Why UnityPoint Health? Responsibilities Support the daily operations of Public Safety and Parking across campus, parking lots, and off-site locations Build and maintain strong relationships with staff, patients, visitors, physicians, and leadership Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment focused on collaboration and continuous improvement Lead, coach, and mentor Public Safety Officers, including training, performance expectations, and professional development Ensure compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements Monitor service quality through inspections, audits, and customer interactions; identify and implement improvement strategies Assist with department budgeting, payroll oversight, and timekeeping processes Support internal investigations as needed and maintain accurate documentation Respond to emergency situations and participate in disaster response efforts as part of the Hospital Incident Command System Maintain a high standard of professionalism, safety, and customer service at all times
Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience:
Previous experience in public safety, healthcare, law enforcement, EMS, or related field preferred Supervisory or leadership experience in a public safety or similar environment preferred Experience with investigations and knowledge of investigative techniques preferred Strong customer service and communication skills required Experience working in fast-paced or high-pressure environments
Skills & Knowledge:
Ability to lead, coach, and develop team members Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Ability to manage conflict and respond effectively in emergency situations Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer systems Knowledge of healthcare regulations (HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission) preferred
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid Iowa driver's license required Certifications such as CPR, AED, defensive tactics, or similar preferred
