Job Description
Essential Job Functions:
Schedules all surgical procedures for specific surgeon(s). Ensures that all required clearance information is received and in patient's medical record in a timely manner. Optimizes the surgical schedule by utilizing block scheduling, resolving conflicts, and working with co-workers to manage surgical schedule. Applies clinical knowledge of procedures to coordinate surgical schedule and utilize block time appropriately. Schedules pre-admission visits or telephone interviews in the Meditech system. Refers patients and schedules them for appropriate clearance appointments. Serves as a liaison to hospital for any scheduling needs. Serves as liaison to doctor's offices while coordinating clearances for surgery. Monitors physicians' vacation schedules and alerts Office Manager and OR leadership of potential opportunities to consolidate services during periods of low surgical volume. Distributes daily OR schedule to surgeon(s). Participates in monthly surgical scheduling meetings with the hospital. Maintains proficiency in all aspects of Medical Receptionist and covers duties for vacations and absences. ResponsibilitySummary:
Under the direction and supervision of the Office Manager, schedules all surgeries in a timely, accurate, and courteous manner. Coordinates day to day operations for specific surgeon(s). Communicates with patients to ensure their understanding of the surgical process and requirements. Obtains pre-authorization from insurance companies for all scheduled procedures.Education:
Minimum:
High School or equivalent education.Preferred:
AAS degree in Medical Assistant/Secretarial Science or experience in business with emphasis on healthcare or related field.Experience:
Minimum:
Medical terminology knowledge or course completion. Knowledge and understanding of physician ordering practices, and basic scheduling database maintenance.Preferred:
