Job Summary:
Custodians contribute to student learning by creating a safe, clean, and healthy environment for students. The work assists in the accomplishment of the mission of the Woodland Public Schools of preparing students for career, life, and college so that they can become a responsible and successful citizens. Work is performed under the direction of the Facilities and Safety Director.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent Working knowledge of custodial practices Understanding of safety protocol associated with various cleaners and chemicals Understanding of the use and need for PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) Understand the usage and location of SDS (system data sheets) Working knowledge of basic computer skills Ability to work around children and present a positive role model Ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and visitors to the district Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisors, and to coordinate work with others Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance, or repair problems as needed Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure pertinent to the job Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts Regular and punctual attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
Other Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, assisted Ability to climb ladders Ability to cooperate with people of all ages Assists parents and other visitors to school buildings with special events and programs Regular and punctual attendance Ability to work independently without other support staff in the building Ability to appropriately handle emergencies that may arise during the work shift
Preferred:
Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance Previous experience with hand tools and power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower, and hand tools One year of job-related experience working with students in an educational setting Such alternatives to the above requirements and desirable qualifications may be made as the district finds appropriate.

The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
