Job Description
Job Title:
Swiss Machinist Job Description As a Swiss Machinist, you will set up and operate CNC Swiss machines to produce medium- to long-run medical components with a strong focus on precision and quality. You will work primarily on CNC Swiss equipment, including Tsugami and similar brands, using your blueprint reading skills and machining knowledge to ensure parts meet strict medical standards. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC Swiss machines to produce medium- to long-run medical parts according to specifications. Perform basic machine setups, including installing tools, setting tool offsets, and adjusting workholding as required. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and critical dimensions. Monitor CNC Swiss machining operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality, accuracy, and productivity. Perform tool changes and offsets during production to maintain part quality and minimize downtime. Inspect parts during and after machining using appropriate measuring tools to ensure they meet medical and customer specifications. Troubleshoot basic machining issues related to tooling, offsets, and machine performance and escalate more complex issues when needed. Maintain a clean and organized work area in a medical manufacturing environment. Collaborate with team members, including setup, quality, and finishing personnel, to ensure smooth workflow and on-time delivery. Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and shop practices while operating CNC Swiss equipment. Essential Skills At least 2+ years of on-the-job experience running CNC Swiss machines. Experience running Tsugami CNC Swiss machines or similar brands such as Citizen, Star, or equivalent. A minimum of 6+ months of experience performing basic setups, including tool changes and offsets on CNC Swiss machines. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints for precision machined parts. Hands-on experience producing precision components, preferably in a medical machining environment. Ability to perform and verify tool offsets, make minor program adjustments as needed, and maintain dimensional accuracy. Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting tight tolerances and quality standards. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented production environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in medical machining or medical device manufacturing is highly beneficial. Experience with CNC Swiss machining at organizations known for precision work would be an asset. Familiarity with multiple CNC Swiss machine brands and controls is a plus. Interest in further developing skills in areas such as advanced machine setup, quality, finishing, programming, or engineering. Willingness to participate in apprenticeship or training programs to broaden machining expertise. Why Work Here? You will join a clean, well-organized medical manufacturing environment that offers strong earning potential and long-term career growth. The company provides a significant sign-on bonus for machining roles and enhances your compensation with generous shift differentials of 20% for second shift, 25% for weekend shift, and 30% for weekend night shift. Most opportunities are direct placements, and the pay structure rewards your time with daily overtime after 8 hours on 12-hour shifts, which stacks on top of the shift differential. After six months of employment, you can take advantage of tuition reimbursement of up to $10,000 per year for machining-related education and apply for a structured apprenticeship program of up to two years, giving you exposure to machining, setup, quality, finishing, and elements of programming and engineering. Following the apprenticeship, you may pursue a journeyman program that recognizes you as an expert in the shop and can lead to a higher pay grade. You will work in a supportive team environment where skills development and career progression are actively encouraged. Work Environment You will work in a very clean, medical manufacturing environment within a smaller location that operates as part of a larger organization while maintaining a high degree of independence. The shop runs CNC Swiss equipment, including brands such as Tsugami and similar machines, in a team-oriented setting focused on quality and precision. The operation typically uses 12-hour shifts, and employees receive overtime pay for hours worked beyond 8 hours each day, in addition to applicable shift differentials.
