We're growing—and we need a Staff Tax Accountant who can execute at a high level, keep up with deadlines, and consistently push work out with accuracy. The Opportunity This role is for someone who can own their work and deliver. You'll be responsible for preparing tax returns, supporting the Accounting team, and handling cleanup projects—ensuring everything is accurate, organized, and completed on time. This is a compliance-driven role focused on delivering accurate, timely tax returns while providing a high level of service to clients. What You'll Be Responsible For Tax Preparation & Execution Prepare individual and business tax returns ( 1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120, 990, 1041 ) Ensure accuracy, completeness, and IRS compliance Deliver consistent tax return output year-round (no tax season craziness) Push returns through efficiently while maintaining quality Deadlines & Workflow Manage multiple deadlines and priorities at once Ensure all returns and deliverables are completed on time Keep work moving—nothing sits stagnant Communicate proactively with team members and clients Accounting Team Support & Cleanup Support the Accounting team with client financials as needed Complete cleanup and catch-up projects Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records Bring disorganized financials to a clean, usable state Client Service & Communication Meet with clients to review and discuss tax returns and related matters Provide clear, professional communication and answer client questions Deliver a high level of customer service and responsiveness Maintain clean, organized workpapers and documentation Who This Is For You're a strong fit if you: Can keep up with deadlines and consistently deliver client work timely Are detail-oriented and take pride in accurate, compliant work Are comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Understand tax preparation and financial statements Can jump into cleanup projects and figure things out Take ownership of your work without needing constant follow-up Are comfortable communicating with clients and explaining tax matters Value strong client service and clear communication Appreciate clear expectations, scorecards, and performance metrics Who This Is NOT For This is not for someone who: Misses deadlines or struggles with time management Needs constant oversight to stay on track Gets overwhelmed in a constantly fast-paced environment Is not detail-oriented or struggles with accuracy Dislikes being measured on performance or working in a data-driven environment Qualifications 3+ years of experience in both tax preparation and accounting Experience with individual and business returns Strong understanding of financial statements and accounting fundamentals QuickBooks Online (QBO) experience is required and must be comfortable performing cleanup on client books Experience handling disorganized client financials and bringing them to clean, accurate records Experience with tax and workflow software such as Drake and TaxDome What It's Like to Work at SJCPA This isn't your typical quiet, corporate accounting office.Think:
