About the Position We are seeking a dynamic and nurturing teacher for a 1st/2nd grade combination classroom who understands the developmental needs of early elementary students and is excited to foster curiosity, confidence, foundational skill development, and independence in young learners. The ideal candidate is a warm and reflective educator who values collaboration, differentiated instruction, play and inquiry-based learning, and whole-child education. Candidates should be skilled in supporting a wide range of academic readiness levels while cultivating a classroom community grounded in belonging, empathy, and joyful learning. Responsibilities Teach reading, writing, and social studies through engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction (math and science are taught by specialist teachers) Build strong foundational literacy and math skills using research-based best practices in early elementary education Create a joyful and responsive classroom environment that supports students' social-emotional growth, independence, and confidence Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, readiness levels, and learning styles within a multi-age classroom Use hands-on learning, inquiry, project-based learning, and experiential education to deepen student engagement Foster executive functioning, collaboration, problem-solving, and self-advocacy skills Utilize formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and monitor student growth Partner closely and proactively with families through consistent communication and collaboration Collaborate with colleagues, learning specialists, and administrators to support student success Participate actively in faculty collaboration, professional development, school events, and the broader life of the school Contribute positively to a warm, inclusive, and mission-driven school culture Supervise students and perform additional duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred Teaching credential Experience teaching in early elementary grades, ideally in a multi-age or combination classroom setting Strong understanding of child development and foundational literacy and numeracy instruction Experience with differentiated instruction and supporting a range of learning needs Familiarity with inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, and/or experiential education Commitment to social-emotional learning and responsive classroom practices Collaborative mindset and strong communication skills with students, families, and colleagues Technologically proficient and comfortable integrating educational technology thoughtfully Reflective practitioner committed to continuous professional growth Warm, flexible, organized, and enthusiastic about working with young children What We Offer Competitive salary and benefits Supportive and collaborative faculty culture Opportunities for professional growth and leadership Small class sizes and meaningful relationships with students and families A joyful school community that values creativity, curiosity, and innovation
