About Us:
MCDD is a grassroots non-profit organization founded in the 1950s. Initially an alternative school for children with disabilities, MCDD has evolved into a day learning center for adults with disabilities in response to changing laws and community needs. Our center focuses on teaching valuable life skills, including cooking, cleaning, social-emotional learning and coping, communication, and job skills.
Position:
Teacher Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated teacher to join our team at MCDD. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a curriculum tailored to the needs of adults with disabilities. This role requires a high level of patience, creativity, and commitment to enhancing the lives of our students. Additionally, the teacher will assist with personal hygiene needs, including restroom assistance and wiping.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement individualized and group curriculum focusing on life skills, including cooking, cleaning, social-emotional learning, coping strategies, communication, and job skills. Provide personal hygiene assistance to students, including restroom assistance and wiping. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student engagement and growth. Conduct assessments to track student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly. Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning experience for students. Communicate regularly with students' families and caregivers to provide updates on progress and address any concerns. Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment. Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities. Assist with fundraisers, special events such as Camp Goodtimes, Mini Olympics, Holiday parties, and more.
Skills and Qualifications:
No degree or certificate required. Experience working with individuals with disabilities, particularly adults, is highly desirable. Strong understanding of developmental disabilities and strategies to support learning and development. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with individuals with disabilities. Ability to develop and implement creative and engaging lesson plans. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and stand on your feet for long periods of time. How to
