Job Description

Category Schools - Paraprofessional Job Type Contract Seeking an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in an educational setting? This contract position as an Orthopedic Impairment Assistant provides valuable support to students and staff in an onsite school environment for the upcoming academic year. Your responsibilities will revolve around direct collaboration with the OI Specialist to assist students using walkers, wheelchairs, and other mobility equipment. You'll be closely involved in monitoring, guiding, and facilitating the safe use of these devices—ensuring students can participate in learning with confidence. The role also encompasses training staff and students in proper equipment use and supporting safe mobility around campus. Strong administrative skills are highly valued, as there are reporting and documentation elements to this role.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience:
CPI Certification is required. Skilled in Assistive Technology and Mobility Device Training. CNA/Medical training is preferred. Previous experience within California schools is a plus. Fluent in Spanish and English (bilingual Spanish required). Strong organizational and administrative ability. Experience working with students with orthopedic impairments or similar roles a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the OI Specialist with student supervision and safe use of adaptive mobility equipment. Support students' daily academic activities as an instructional assistant. Conduct or support training on assistive/mobility device usage. Maintain accurate documentation and follow safety protocols. Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and administration to develop individualized support.
