Job Description
Hiring for the following grade levels: Elementary classroom for children with mild to moderate support needs Elementary classroom for children with moderate to severe support needs Our Mission Life Skills Academy is a private school serving grades Pre-K - 12th. We are a 501(c)3 charitable organization whose mission is to provide education, therapy, life skills, career training, and job placement opportunities for students with diverse and special needs. Requirements for this Position To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The duties are intended to describe the nature and level of work being performed by the team member assigned to the position. This job description is not meant to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of this position. Other duties may be assigned which are not listed. Essential Functions of this Job Instructional Process Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the school's philosophy, goals and objectives. Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans which provide for effective teaching strategies and maximizes time on task. Plans and implements a program of study designed to meet individual needs of students. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning by implementing appropriate teaching strategies. Provides progress and interim reports as required. Plans and prescribes purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals, therapists, tutors, and volunteers as needed. Student Services Management Reviews documentation in the cumulative file to become familiar with each student's background history and current needs. Tracks data on existing IEP or ISP goals and revises goals as necessary. Completes relevant sections on the Academy's "Individual Service Plan" (ISP) at least one week prior to the scheduled meeting date. Collaborates and consults with other team members for additional services as appropriate. For example, therapists, assistant principal, behavior staff, etc. Differentiates or modifies instruction to meet student's unique needs as identified in the service plan. Classroom Management Develops reasonable rules of in-classroom behavior and appropriate discipline techniques which are consistently applied. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect student privacy, equipment, materials and atmosphere. Relationship Management Upholds and enforces school policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations and is supportive of them to parents, outside support partners, and the public. Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time. Establishes continued and habitual communication with parents and honors parent requests for meetings or conferences promptly. Maintains cooperative relations with other team members by way of face-to-face contact, Teams discussions, and interact with outside support partners and leadership. Professional Growth Participates in-service training programs. Attends team meetings as required. Student Evaluation Evaluates accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods such as teacher-made test, sample of students work, mastery skills check lists, criterion-referenced tests and norm-referenced tests. Makes appropriate adjustments in instructional plan based on assessed results. Performs duties necessary to maintain the accountability required by the Principal/Asst. Principal. Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws. Other Essential Function of this Job Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work cooperatively with parents, other team members, school leadership and outside agency partners in providing services to students. Ability to develop concepts and ideas and relate both in oral and virtual form. Knowledge of child development. Ability to administer online testing instruments as required. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, parents, other team members, and leadership. Must be able to work in a flexible offsite work environment to meet the needs of the position. Bilingual/biliterate preferred. Experience with Microsoft Teams a plus. Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements (at least one required) 3 or more years of public and/or private school teaching. Special skills, knowledge, or experience that qualifies Educator to provide instruction in subject(s) taught. Bachelor's Degree or higher. Teaching Certification not required. Work Context Requires sitting, standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of communication systems, such as computers, software, electronic mail, and telephones. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires work with students, parents, internal and external contacts, and with the public. Physical Environment Requires working indoors and outdoors. Requires sitting, standing and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds and infrequently weighing more than 20 pounds.
