South Whidbey School District Position Summary South Whidbey School District seeks a skilled, student-centered educator committed to delivering high-quality instruction aligned with Washington State Learning Standards. The ideal candidate fosters an inclusive and engaging classroom environment, applies evidence-based instructional practices, and collaborates effectively with colleagues, students, and families to ensure equitable outcomes for all learners. This position requires the effective implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), including differentiated instruction and targeted supports for English language learners, students receiving special education services, and highly capable learners. Key Responsibilities Instructional Planning & Delivery- Plan and deliver instruction aligned with state standards, district curriculum, and individual student learning needs.
- Use knowledge of students—including cultural background, language proficiency, IEP/504 needs, and advanced learning profiles—to inform instructional decisions.
- Develop and communicate clear learning targets and success criteria; engage students in setting goals and monitoring their own progress.
- Use evidence-based instructional strategies, formative assessment, and data to guide instruction and provide timely feedback.
- Integrate educational technology and district-adopted digital tools to enhance learning and accessibility. Differentiation, MTSS & Student Support
- Implement the MTSS framework to design and deliver tiered supports, interventions, and enrichment opportunities.
- Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate scaffolds to support English language learners, students with disabilities, and highly capable students. Classroom Environment & Culture
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that fosters engagement, belonging, and academic success.
- Establish and maintain clear routines and expectations that promote student independence and collaboration.
- Support student behavior using positive, proactive, and restorative practices aligned with district policy and Washington State law.
- Empower students to contribute to classroom norms and routines, and promote student leadership and ownership of the learning environment. Student Engagement & Ownership of Learning
- Facilitate meaningful academic discourse, encouraging students to question, explain their thinking, and engage in collaborative learning.
- Teach and support students in self-assessment, reflection, and goal-setting to deepen ownership of learning. Equity & Culturally Responsive Practice
- Demonstrate cultural competency and implement equitable instructional practices aligned with Washington State CCDEI standards.
- Design and deliver culturally responsive instruction that connects curriculum to students' identities, experiences, and communities. Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff regarding student progress, needs, and supports.
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), school initiatives, and ongoing professional development. Professional Growth & Leadership
- Engage in reflective inquiry cycles, including PLC data cycles, to improve instructional practice and student outcomes.
- Contribute to school and district improvement efforts through collaboration, curriculum development, mentoring, or leadership roles. Compliance & Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
- Comply with all state and federal regulations and district procedures.
- Fulfill mandatory reporting responsibilities under Washington State law.
- If assigned in special education, develop and implement IEPs in compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and applicable WAC requirements. Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree
- Valid Washington State Teacher Certificate with appropriate endorsement(s)
- Satisfactory background check and fingerprint clearance Preferred
- Experience working with diverse learners and implementing differentiated instruction
- Training or experience with MTSS, restorative practices, or trauma-informed approaches
- Familiarity with learning management systems and digital instructional tools
- First Aid/CPR certification (as required for specific roles) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong instructional, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to analyze and use data to inform instruction within an MTSS framework
- Ability to effectively support students with diverse academic, behavioral, linguistic, and cultural needs
- Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and sound judgment
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment Working Conditions
