Teacher of Music

TITLE:

TEACHER OF MUSIC DESCRIPTION

To provide an approved education program and establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth; to help pupils develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education; and to maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate or CE, as set by the NJ state Certification Authorities. (Music Endorsement) Bachelor's degree. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status. Proof of NJ residency, as required by statute. Knowledge, experience, and/or background in marching band drill, music, drumline, and band front.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities. Participate in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees, and other school system groups. Make effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy. Fulfill the following duties specific to music instruction and performing arts directorship: Instruct pupils in music appreciation and the fundamentals of performing music for an audience. Serve as co-director of the HHS Soundwaves, including marching band and concert band. Establish and conduct instrumental ensembles as co-curricular activities throughout the school year Lead ongoing one-on-one and small group (sectional) instrumental lessons throughout the year to both prepare performance music and enhance students' skills on respective instruments Maintain the school's instruments and assist in the purchase of musical materials, music, and resources Actively participate in Hudson County Teen Arts Guide the Soundwaves organization in fundraising efforts Brainstorm, plan, and chaperone enrichment trips for Soundwaves members to bolster group culture and solidarity and encourage student participation Promote the HHS performing arts program within the district in order to increase student membership Promote the HHS performing arts within the community by posting audio/video recordings and maintaining an active school Soundwaves social media presence Seek out and attend performance opportunities for Soundwaves throughout the year and during both marching and concert seasons Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned. Attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances through the school year and during the pre-season. Rehearsals may be held in various locations, both before and after school hours, including during weekends and summer vacation May require physical activity, including lifting equipment. Foster a collegial relationship with the co-director of the marching band and the concert band.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ten Months; Tenurable Salary and compensation as established by the Teachers' Collective Negotiations Agreement. Evaluated annually by the Principal or designee, consistent with Achieve New Jersey standards.
