Job Description
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures all assigned policies and procedures meet the requirements of network and lab accrediting agencies. 2. Ensures standardization throughout the network in assigned areas of expertise. Maintains and updates Laboratory Policies and Procedures as well as document control in area of specialty. 3. Oversees the maintenance procedures of instrumentation and ensures that resources are available for troubleshooting technical and instrument operations. 4. Ensures that the quality of testing is maintained according to laboratory policy and complies with licensing and accrediting agencies. 5. Maintains technical requirements for the core laboratory including monthly peer data evaluation, quality control review, and competency assessment. 6. Manages network projects in areas of expertise by preparing validation plans, coordinating and collaborating with technical coordinators, working with the vendor and Epic for the completion and success of the project. Reviews results with Pathologist or Lab Administrator. 7. Ensures selection of proficiency testing meets laboratory accrediting agencies' standards. 8. Maintains effective communication within the network through technical coordinator meetings, manager meetings, meeting with Pathologist, etc. Serves on various laboratory/hospital committees. 9. Delegates responsibilities and duties to technical coordinators at each site so the section runs smoothly. 10. With Laboratory Quality team, designs and implements a Quality Management process/program to document performance and resolve system problems and service complaints. 11. Maintains current technical/scientific knowledge and competency in assigned area of expertise to perform patient testing as needed. Able to perform essential functions of MLS/MT in area of expertise. 12. Prepares and teaches lectures in assigned area of expertise for intern MLS program. 13. Provides input to Network Director for annual budget and to explain variances. Assists Site Managers on maintaining cost effective inventory. 14. Assists LIS analysts in resolving laboratory computer problems. 15. Coordinates teaching of students, public relations tours of laboratory. 16. Other related duties as assigned.PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Sitting up to 7 hours per day in 2 hour increments. Standing up to 5 hours per day in 2 hour increments. Walking up to 7 hours per day in short increments. Frequently uses fingers to manipulate small vials, pipetting, etc. Continuous use of hands for operation of laboratory equipment and computer keyboard. Occasional lifting of boxes/equipment up to 30 pounds. Occasional pushing/pulling of equipment. Frequent stooping/bending. Occasional crouching. Frequent reaching above shoulder level and stretching across work area (30" depth). Hearing as it relates to normal, high, and low frequencies. Seeing as it relates to general, far, near, color and peripheral vision. Depth perception.EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution; and have at least 2 years of laboratory experience in non-waived testing in the designated specialty or subspecialty areas of service for which the technical coordinator is responsible. ASCP eligible.TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five years clinical laboratory experience in area of assigned expertise and two years supervisory experience preferred.
