$20-$27 an hour Job Description The Driller's Assistant supports environmental drilling operations by preparing job sites, operating and handling drilling tools, collecting soil and groundwater samples, and maintaining field equipment. This hands-on role involves physical labor, outdoor work in all weather conditions, and strict adherence to safety procedures. You will work directly with the driller and environmental field staff to support environmental investigation and remediation projects that protect public health and the environment. Responsibilities Prepare job sites for environmental drilling by setting up equipment, staging tools, and ensuring the work area is safe and organized. Assist the driller with operating and handling drilling tools, rigs, augers, and sampling equipment during field operations. Collect soil and groundwater samples according to established procedures and assist with proper labeling, documentation, and chain-of-custody. Support environmental investigation and remediation activities under the direction of drillers and environmental field staff. Perform basic equipment maintenance, cleaning, and inspections to keep drilling tools and machinery in safe working condition. Use basic math and measurement skills to log drilling depths, record sample intervals, and accurately document field data. Follow all safety protocols, including OSHA and
HAZWOPER
guidelines, and maintain strong situational awareness on active job sites. Work reliably in the field by arriving on time, completing assigned tasks, and traveling to multiple regional job sites as needed. Collaborate closely with drillers, environmental technicians, and environmental scientists to complete projects efficiently and safely. Handle physically demanding tasks such as lifting 50-75 lbs, moving equipment, and working on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions. Essential Skills Mechanical aptitude with the ability to work safely and effectively with tools, equipment, and machinery. Physical stamina to lift 50-75 lbs and perform sustained outdoor labor in heat, cold, rain, mud, and other challenging conditions. Situational awareness and commitment to safety, with OSHA 40-hour
HAZWOPER
training preferred. Fieldwork reliability, including punctuality, consistency, and the ability to travel regionally to multiple job sites. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work closely with drillers and environmental scientists. Basic math and measurement skills for logging depths, recording samples, and documenting field data accurately. Valid driver's license. Comfort working around heavy equipment, drilling rigs, augers, and sampling tools. Construction or environmental field experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 40-hour
HAZWOPER
certification (preferred; can be obtained after hire through paid training). OSHA 10 training experience is beneficial. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus. Good communication skills for coordinating with field teams and documenting field activities. Interest in building a long-term career in environmental drilling, remediation, or equipment operation.
