Student Services Mission:
CDSS Student Services (SS) aims to invest in all students holistically, with a commitment to their personal and professional success as students and future alumni. CDSS SS actively and respectfully support students to: gain the knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to succeed in today's datafied world; receive sound advice centered on their personal experiences, and take advantage of research opportunities and career services so they are ready to masterfully engage as informed leaders to tackle the world's most pressing problems. The Director of Student Programs is critical to the college's operations. The position reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Students and implements the college vision for student life by managing college programs, events, and student spaces. The role will supervise staff whose portfolios include student-facing programs and events. Staff and Program Supervision:
Supervises, coaches, and evaluates staff with student-facing program functions (ex, Career Services, Research Programming, Academic Support programming, Transfer readiness). Manages specialized programming and partners with staff on the execution of events for transfer students, admissions, tutoring, and wellness. Supports the Associate/Assistant Dean of Students in the hiring, evaluation, training, and assessment of programming staff and their projects. 20%Student Organization and Programming Management:
Manages CDSS Student Services programming and events. Serves as the subject matter expert for the Student Services team on co-curricular programming, student organization support, and student-facing programming. Manages student programming and events for careers, research events, transfer initiatives, admissions, and other CDSS Student Services initiatives. Responsible for maintaining a database of student organizations, vetting new organizations for recognition, and liaising with the College of Engineering and campus student organization partners. Provides solutions for complex and sensitive student matters. Recommends changes to program policies, processes, and procedures. 20%Student Services Event Management:
Serves as the Project Manager for signature student events in CDSS, such as Commencement, Cal Day, Homecoming, and Golden Bear Orientation. Convenes planning meetings, engages stakeholders across the college units, disseminates critical campus- level communication to stakeholders, and documents all aspects of the event management. Proposes and manages budgets for these signature events. Partners closely with CDSS event management staff, Director of Finance, Assistant Dean of Communications, and Student Services Coordinator to make purchases, secure vendors, and message college
- wide updates.
CDSS Student Space Management:
Provides scheduling support for an inventory of 9-12 classrooms and student event spaces fr the college. Works closely with the College and department course schedulers to collect requests, prioritize, and approve classes for scheduling. Develops systems for student event reservations. Partners closely with CDSS Facilities, including the building manager, access manager, and AV manager. 5% Professional Development 5% Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Strong knowledge of University and departmental policies, processes, and procedures. Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs. Skills in monitoring/assessing people, processes, or services, to make improvements. Strong skills in active listening, critical thinking, negotiation, reasoning, organizing, written and verbal communication, multitasking, and intercultural competence, and uses these skills to develop original ideas to solve problems. Strong skills in project and program management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions, and understanding why they react as they do. Advanced knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization. Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Advanced knowledge of risk assessment principles, along with the ability to evaluate risks and the likelihood of consequences. Strong leadership skills to motivate employees and influence attitudes and behaviors. Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree preferred. Anticipated hiring range: $74,700- $124,300 UCB salary range: $74,700
- $132,900 The salary offer to the final candidate will take into consideration their experience and salary equity with current UC Berkeley employees working in similar roles.
