Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY
Our engineering department operates from an established, detailed set of design guidelines, standards, and drawing conventions built around Autodesk Inventor. We are seeking an individual who can:
  • Translate our existing design guidelines and standards into structured AI prompts, automation scripts, and iLogic rules within Autodesk Inventor
  • Develop AI-assisted workflows that generate design outputs (assemblies, drawings, BOMs) from project specifications with minimal manual input
  • Build and refine tooling that interfaces with Inventor through its API, iLogic, or third-party AI integration layers
  • Continuously evaluate emerging AI tools and platforms relevant to engineering design and recommend adoption strategies
  • Collaborate with senior designers and project engineers to identify the highest-impact automation targets
  • Document automation systems and train internal users on their operation Key Responsibilities
  • Own the development and ongoing refinement of AI-assisted design generation workflows within Autodesk Inventor
  • Analyze SprayTech's existing design guidelines and systematically encode them into automation logic (iLogic, Inventor API, or AI prompt frameworks)
  • Design and maintain a library of intelligent parametric templates that generate assemblies, fabrication drawings, and BOMs from project input specifications
  • Evaluate and integrate third-party AI tools (e.g., generative design, LLM-based design assistants, AI-enhanced PDM workflows) compatible with Inventor
  • Partner with engineers and project managers to capture design intent in structured formats suitable for AI-assisted generation
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for all automation systems, tools, and workflows
  • Train and support internal design staff on AI-assisted tools
  • Monitor emerging AI/ML technologies relevant to mechanical engineering and capital equipment manufacturing
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Engineering Background
  • 3-7 years of hands-on mechanical design experience with Autodesk Inventor (non-negotiable)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in sheet metal design, structural fabrication drawings, and assembly modeling in Inventor
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, manufacturing processes, and industrial equipment fabrication
  • Experience with Inventor iLogic or Inventor API (VBA, .NET, or Python-based automation) AI / Automation Skills
  • Practical experience integrating AI tools into an engineering or manufacturing workflow — not just academic familiarity
  • Demonstrated ability to build structured prompt frameworks, automation scripts, or AI-assisted workflows
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (Python strongly preferred; VBA, C#, or PowerShell acceptable)
  • Familiarity with LLM APIs, AI-assisted design tools, or Autodesk's Platform Services / Forge APIs is a strong plus Professional Traits
  • Systems thinker: approaches problems by building scalable, repeatable processes rather than one-off solutions
  • Self-directed and capable of owning a program from concept through implementation
  • Strong written and verbal communication — must be able to document systems clearly and train non-technical users
  • Industrial manufacturing or capital equipment background strongly preferred
  • WHAT SPRAYTECH OFFERS
  • Competitive salary: $90,000
  • $115,000 depending on experience and demonstrated AI tooling capability
  • Ground-floor ownership of a strategic program with direct management visibility
  • Collaborative team environment with experienced engineers and project managers
  • Established, detailed design guidelines that provide a strong foundation for automation — you are not starting from scratch
  • Growth trajectory: this role has the potential to evolve into a senior engineering leadership position as the program matures
