Job Description

Role Overview:
The Biometrics Team Leader - AI Strategy & Implementation (Oncology) will oversee a team supporting Oncology Biometrics AI Strategy & Implementation driving forward AI initiatives and automation across the Biometrics fields (Statistics, Programming and Information Practice) to accelerate delivery of analysis & reporting, decision-making and optimize data insights for patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
    Oncology Biometrics Leadership:
    Lead a team of specialists who understand the field/domain knowledge of Statistics/Programming/Information Practice and can deliver AI solutions.
      Oncology AI Strategy:
      Define, implement, and continuously refine the AI vision for Biometrics in Oncology—leveraging AI to accelerate delivery of A&R, decision making and data insights.
        Project Oversight:
        Ensure the delivery of AI projects maintaining adherence to regulatory standards and scientific rigor.
          Cross-Functional Collaboration:
          Serve as Primary Point of Contact for OBM with R D IT, Oncology Data Science and AI, and other cross functional AI initiative teams. Partner to deliver coordinated AI approaches addressing Oncology-specific challenges.
            Governance & Compliance:
            Enforce ethical AI practices, data governance, and compliance with Oncology clinical data standards, relevant data privacy regulations, and AstraZeneca policies.
              Innovation and Capability Building:
              Foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning—upskilling team members in Oncology AI concepts, data science methodologies, and specialized analytical tools (e.g., genomics/omics platforms, imaging analytics).
                Workforce Planning:
                Input to the OBM Strategic Workforce Planning in terms of AI skill needs for the future workforce. Engage in the training plans for the department working across with Learning & Development Biometrics Lead.
                  Resource and Budget Planning:
                  Manage allocation of team and technical resources across Oncology programs to ensure optimal project delivery and strategic investment in AI. Develop arguments and measures for benefits and efficiencies from AI use cases.
                  Required Qualifications & Skills:
                    Education:
                    MSc or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field, ideally with oncology exposure.
                      Experience:
                      10+ years of extensive experience in biometrics teams in Oncology clinical development
                        Technical Proficiency:
                        Knowledge of statistical programming (SAS, R, Python), clinical data standards, process work flows and advanced analytics platforms, plus experience with AI/ML frameworks- ideally agentic AI frameworks
                          Leadership:
                          Proven ability to lead, inspire, and develop high-performing teams in a matrixed, global environment.
                            Strategic Capability:
                            Demonstrated expertise in developing and accomplishing Oncology-focused data, analytics, or AI strategies.
                              Communication:
                              Strong skills in translating complex analytical and AI concepts for Oncology customers, including clinicians, translational scientists, and regulatory bodies.
                                Compliance:
                                Robust understanding of Oncology-specific clinical trial regulations, data privacy, and ethical AI considerations.

                                Compensation and Other Factors:
                                The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $221,036.00 - 331,554.00. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
