The Software and Societal Systems Department, in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University is looking for a Post-Doctoral Researcher who will conduct original research in multi-language-agent systems and trustworthy agentic AI under the supervision of Prof. Fei Fang. The position involves developing methods, systems, benchmarks, and evaluation frameworks for AI agents operating in complex environments involving other agents and humans. The Post-Doctoral Researcher is expected to lead at least one research project, including formulating research directions, driving execution, and disseminating results through high-impact publications. The researcher is also expected to work closely with PhD students in the group, collaborate with external partners and interdisciplinary stakeholders, and contribute to a collaborative research environment. In addition, the Post-Doctoral Researcher will assist in the preparation of research proposals and contribute to the reporting and management of funded projects. The role may also involve mentoring junior researchers and supporting project planning activities.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or a related field (by start date). Strong research background in AI/ML or multi-agent systems, with expertise in areas such as reinforcement learning (including multi-agent reinforcement learning), Large Language Model-based agents, trustworthy/safe AI. Ability to independently lead research, including problem formulation, method design, system implementation, and publication. Strong programming skills (Python) and experience with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow). Strong communication skills and a track record for top-tier AI/ML conference publications. Ability to collaborate effectively and contribute to mentoring, proposal writing, and project reporting.
