Job Description

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a full-time AI Engineer to support our Corporate Operations. This position may be remote, with some travel required. Qualified candidates from across the United States are encouraged to apply.
Salary Range:
$80 - 100k, based upon skills, qualifications, and experience.
Summary:
TransCore is seeking an AI Engineer to design, train, deploy, and support AI-enabled systems with a strong emphasis on process automation and intelligent chatbot solutions. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on practical implementation, model training, and operationalizing AI solutions across internal platforms. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated engineer who works independently, identifies problems without needing detailed direction, and develops pragmatic technical solutions. This role requires strong engineering judgment, an ownership mentality, and the ability to carry work forward from concept to execution. In addition, this role requires the ability to collaborate effectively with business units, communicate AI concepts in plain language to non-technical stakeholders, and help identify, scope, and implement AI-powered solutions that align with business needs. Key Responsibilities:
Design, build, train, and maintain AI-powered automation solutions Develop and support automated chatbots and conversational AI systems Partner with business units to understand operational challenges, translate business needs into AI-powered solutions, and communicate technical approaches and outcomes clearly to non-technical stakeholders Train and fine-tune models, prompts, embeddings, and retrieval pipelines Engineer RAG architectures for knowledge retrieval and automation workflows Work with local LLM tooling such as Ollama and LM Studio Build AI pipelines using Python, APIs, and structured data sources Use frameworks such as Haystack and other emerging orchestration technologies Design and integrate vector databases and AI-focused data storage solutions Build automation and chatbot solutions using Microsoft Copilot Studio Document architectures, automation workflows, chatbot behavior, and procedures Troubleshoot and optimize AI and automation solutions
Core Expectations:
Operate independently with minimal oversight Proactively identify inefficiencies and opportunities for automation Translate ambiguous requirements into concrete technical deliverables Demonstrate strong problem-solving and debugging skills Take ownership of solutions end-to-end Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to non-technical audiences, including business stakeholders and operational teams
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience Strong Python engineering skills Experience with automation, scripting, or workflow development Experience training, tuning, or evaluating AI models or embeddings Experience building or supporting automated chatbots Comfort working in Linux and cloud-based environments Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Preferred Experience:
Hands-on work with LLMs (local or cloud-based) Experience implementing RAG architectures Familiarity with Ollama, LM Studio, Haystack, or similar frameworks Experience with vector databases and AI query patterns Exposure to enterprise AI governance and security considerations
