Job Description:
About Essence Essence Patient Solutions is a healthcare activation and orchestration company. We help pharmaceutical marketing and medical teams run patient and physician activation programs at national scale, through a contracted partner network that engages directly with health systems and health plans. We design the campaigns, our partners execute them in the channels patients already trust, and outcomes are measured through real-world claims and clinical data. We are a small nimble team. We move fast, we ship real production work, and we treat AI as a core operating capability, not a side experiment. The Role We are hiring an AI Automation Engineer to help us build the next generation of internal AI tooling at Essence. You will work directly with the Head of Product and AI to design, build, and ship automations, agents, and AI-powered workflows that make every part of the business run better. This is a hands-on builder role. You will not be writing strategy decks. You will be shipping working systems that the team uses every day. What You Will Do
Build internal AI agents and automations that take real work off the team's plate across sales, marketing, operations, and delivery
Design and ship Claude Skills and Claude Code workflows that codify how Essence operates and scale our expertise across the team
Wire up systems using MCP servers, APIs, webhooks, and no-code tools so data and actions flow between the platforms we use
Run small, fast experiments with new AI capabilities, evaluate what actually works in production, and kill what does not
Partner with non-engineers to translate fuzzy business problems into shippable AI systems, and explain technical tradeoffs in plain English
Own the work end to end from problem framing through deployment, monitoring, iteration, and documentation What We Are Looking For This role is open to new grads and early-career builders.
We care more about what you have shipped than where you went to school. If you have spent the last year or two building things on your own time because you cannot help it, we want to hear from you.
Must-haves:
0 to 2 years of professional experience, including new grads
At least one real, shipped AI or automation project (work, side project, hackathon, or open source all count)
Hands-on experience with Claude Code, Claude Skills, or comparable agentic AI tooling, including MCP servers
Strong prompt engineering and agent design skills, with a portfolio that shows your thinking
Working Python skills for scripting, API integrations, and data wrangling
Comfort building with no-code and low-code tools (Zapier, Make, n8n, or similar)
Experience integrating systems through REST APIs and webhooks
Bright, fast learner, and visibly curious about AI. You experiment constantly and can talk about what you learned from things that did not work
Strong written communication and the ability to work well with non-engineers Nice to have:
Background or interest in healthcare, pharma, or life sciences
Presence in AI builder communities (Discord, X, hackathons, AI Tinkerers, etc.)
Experience with Microsoft 365, Slack, Salesforce, or Airtable as integration targets
Exposure to evals, observability, or testing for LLM systems How to Stand Out Send us a link to something you built. A working agent, a Claude Skill, an automation that saved you hours, a weird side project that did not work but taught you something. We would rather see one real thing than a polished resume. Location and Logistics
Hybrid role, based out of our Connecticut office, 2 to 3 days per week in office
Reports directly to the Head of Product and AI
Full-time, salaried position
Compensation:
$75,000 to $95,000 base, final offer reflects experience and portfolio
