These approaches cross college boundaries to connect elements of Data Science from engineering, technology, science and the humanities, and inform wider social challenges. What we want The TAMIDS Senior AI Engineer, under general supervision, develops, implements, and supports low‑to‑moderately complex Artificial Intelligence‑enabled software solutions in support of research and analytical activities within the Texas A&M Institute of Data Science (TAMIDS) and affiliated programs. The position focuses on deploying AI techniques, tools, and methodologies and supporting faculty, researchers, and project teams in conducting AI-enabled research. This includes contributing directly to AI application development, integrating AI capabilities into end-to-end research workflows, and participating in TAMIDS consultancy and support activities that help researchers design, implement, or advance AI-based research efforts. Know Compensation:
$6862.34/Mo - $9058.28/Mo depending on qualifications This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance A cover letter and resume are strongly recommended

TAMIDS Senior AI Engineer:
Bachelor's degree or any equivalent of education and experience Two years of experience developing data-driven AI enabled, or research-focused applications. Minimum required qualifications for
TAMIDS Lead AI Engineer:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination and experience Five years of experience developing data-driven, AI enabled, or research-focused applications Preferred Qualifications Master's degree related to Data Science or Artificial Intelligence Completion of formal professional training in applied artificial intelligence that includes hands‑on experience with an enterprise‑style AI platform used to support end‑to‑end AI application workflows. Experience developing and maintaining AI‑enabled research applications that support data‑driven or analytical workflows. Experience building end‑to‑end applications that include web dashboards or portals, backend services, and integrated AI or analytical functionality. Experience working with research data, including designing or operating pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and managing structured and unstructured data. Experience working with high-performance computing resources, including utilizing job schedulers, parallel programming, and managing large data sets on high-performance file systems. Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages commonly used in research or scientific computing. Experience supporting AI‑enabled applications deployed on institutionally managed infrastructure and commercial AI platforms, including managing execution, resource usage, and reliability. Experience assessing AI application behavior relative to user needs and exercising judgment to refine configurations, workflows, or inputs. Experience applying software engineering practices that support reliability and sustainability, including testing, debugging, version control, dependency management, and documentation. Experience developing examples, reference implementations, or reusable templates that support adoption of AI‑enabled research tools. Experience providing technical guidance through workshops, training, or consultancy with faculty, researchers, students, or project teams. Experience directing the technical work of junior peers. Responsibilities AI Workflow Implementation and Application Development Under general supervision, develops, implements, and maintains low‑to‑moderately complex AI‑enabled software components that support research and analytical workflows. Develops and integrates end‑to‑end AI‑enabled research applications, including data processing, AI or analytical components, and user‑facing functionality, based on defined research requirements. Works with faculty, researchers, and project teams to integrate AI capabilities into research workflows by translating research needs into implementable technical solutions. Uses appropriate computing and data resources to support AI‑enabled research activities in accordance with project needs, data considerations, and institutional standards. Develops reusable and well‑documented software components or examples that may be applied across multiple research efforts. Oversees selection of appropriate computing and data resources to support AI‑enabled research activities in accordance with project needs, data considerations, and institutional standards. Leads development of reusable and well‑documented software components or examples that may be applied across multiple research efforts. AI Training and Community Enablement Supports effective use of AI services within the TAMIDS community by providing guidance to faculty, students, and administrative staff through workshops and training. Works with researchers to develop examples, documentation, and case‑based materials that translate complex research contexts into practical templates and reference implementations for AI applications. Maintains shared technical materials and knowledge resources that support consistent and responsible use of AI in research environments. Coordinates with institutional computing and support units to ensure training materials and example implementations align. AI Consultancy and Research Team Support Acts as a technical point of contact for research teams seeking assistance with AI‑enabled application implementation and support. Provides

consultancy activities through technical assistance to faculty, researchers, and students engaged in AI‑related research efforts. Assesses research needs and identifies suitable AI‑enabled approaches within defined project scope. Supports and guides students assisting with AI‑related development, training, or consultancy activities. Reviews AI‑related technical contributions from students or project collaborators and provides feedback to maintain quality, maintainability, and effectiveness. Evaluates research objectives to determine and recommend AI-enabled approaches and methodologies that align with project goals and technical feasibility. Provides technical direction and mentorship to students and junior staff, assisting with AI development, training, and consultancy, ensuring their growth and project alignment. Oversees the quality and effectiveness of technical contributions from students and project collaborators, conducting reviews to ensure high standards of maintainability and performance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working and/or expert knowledge of data governance, privacy, and responsible AI in research computing environments. Ability to use Personal computer and office software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite). Some lifting/carrying of classroom/presentation materials up to 20lbs. Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines. Direct and/or evaluate the work of others. Advanced knowledge of programming, software development, database management, server administration, security standards, technical documentation, client needs assessments and applicable regulations. Advanced skills in full stack development, troubleshooting and debugging, problem solving, communication, detail orientation and time management. Leadership and mentorship skills.
