Job Description:
Primary Function:
Develops training materials for faculty and students regarding managing jobs in the High Performance Computing (HPC) system; collaborates with faculty and students to understand their scientific tasks and identify computing requirements; advises faculty, staff, and students on how to organize, prepare, and obtain data sets for analysis; provides guidance on the use of techniques such as data visualization, statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining to answer research questions; assists and trains faculty in composing and assembling reproducible workflows and protocols; assists researchers with job requests, environment, execution, and troubleshooting; and assists in the maintenance of the HPC system.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, statistics, or related field; ability to interact with students and faculty to facilitate their use of the HPC system; experience with Linux based clustered computing environments such as RedHat and Rocky Linux; proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Python) and at least one of the following: R, C, C++, Perl, or Java required. Master's degree in information technology, computer science, statistics, or related field; experience working with a range of audiences; experience providing support and/or training; proficiency in setting up jobs for parallel execution, e.g., allocating adequate CPU cores and memory to meet specific requirements; experience with Linux account management and application support; and proficiency with job submission systems such as Slurm, PDB, and LSF preferred. Student experience will be considered.
