VMG is seeking four (4) Scientific Linux Researchers to support the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the NIH Biomedical Research Center in Baltimore, Maryland. These positions support scientific computing environments by administering Linux-based research systems, performing data analysis, managing research data, and optimizing high-performance computing resources that advance biomedical research. The ideal candidates will work closely with scientists, researchers, and technical staff to maintain research computing infrastructure, support laboratory operations, analyze scientific data, and develop innovative computing solutions that enhance research productivity and scientific discovery. Key Responsibilities Administer and maintain Linux-based laboratory computers and research computing environments. Perform Linux system administration, data management, and scientific data analysis. Maintain accurate electronic research records, data storage, and laboratory documentation. Perform data retrieval, entry, and management using multiple information technology systems. Troubleshoot Linux hardware, software, and laboratory computing equipment and implement corrective actions. Optimize research workflows using high-performance computing resources and software solutions. Conduct experiments and data analyses in accordance with established research plans. Prepare purchase requests for new and replacement computer equipment through NIH procurement systems. Collaborate with laboratory staff to develop and implement new computing tools and software solutions. Interact with scientists and researchers from NIH and collaborating institutions on research initiatives. Attend laboratory meetings and present technical findings and project updates. Support continuous improvement of laboratory computing infrastructure and research operations. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences, Computer Administration, Computer and Information Systems, Computer Programming, Data Processing, or a related field. Experience with Linux and Unix operating systems. Proficiency in Python, Bash scripting, Git, and R. Experience with Linux system administration. Knowledge of data management and scientific data analysis. Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting scientific research or biomedical computing environments. Experience administering high-performance computing (HPC) systems. Experience supporting Linux-based laboratory or research infrastructure. Familiarity with NIH research environments or other federal scientific programs. Experience developing automation scripts and scientific computing workflows. Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary research teams. Work Environment Full-time position (40 hours per week). Monday through Friday schedule. Position is fully onsite at the NIH Biomedical Research Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Telework is not available. Research computing and laboratory environment supporting scientific research programs. Visa sponsorship is permitted in accordance with task order requirements.
