Job TitleDatabase & Business Intelligence Specialist Agency Texas A&M University Department Technology Services - Enterprise Application Services - ITAS Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationCollege Station, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description A Glimpse of the Job The Database & Business Intelligence Specialist supports the technical delivery and administration of reporting, analytics, and data engineering capabilities, with a focus on Power BI, relational data sources, data pipelines, data integration, user enablement, and platform support. This position works with technical teams and business users to translate reporting and data needs into reliable technical solutions, maintain reports and datasets, troubleshoot data and access issues, support data quality and governance practices, and help mature scalable processes for reporting, deployment, and analytics platform use.
Essential Duties and Tasks:
BI Reporting & Technical Solutions Develop and maintain reports and dashboards using Power BI. Assist in translating business requirements into reliable reporting and data solutions. Validate data accuracy and ensure consistency across reports and datasets. Troubleshoot report, dataset, and data source issues in collaboration with technical team members. User Support & Platform Enablement Support business users in adopting Power BI for reporting and analysis. Provide guidance to users with varying levels of experience, from beginner to intermediate. Assist with troubleshooting report issues, data questions, access concerns, and platform usage. Help develop training materials, documentation, standards, and best practices. Data Engineering, SQL & Integration Support Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines and data integration processes from multiple sources, including SQL databases, files, and cloud-based sources. Transform and validate data to support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence solutions. Collaborate with team members on data models, data organization, source system integration, and data flow design. Support efforts to standardize data definitions, improve data quality, and increase consistency across reporting solutions. Assist with SQL queries, data validation, troubleshooting, and basic relational data analysis as needed. BI Platform, Governance & Process Support Assist with organizing reports, datasets, workspaces, and related assets in a scalable and maintainable way. Participate in evolving practices related to data governance, version control, deployment, and lifecycle management. Support adoption of new capabilities within the analytics platform. Help maintain repeatable processes that improve reliability, supportability, and consistency across reporting solutions. Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years of experience in relational database design and development. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting business intelligence, reporting, analytics, database, data engineering, or data platform solutions in an IT environment. Experience building or maintaining reports, dashboards, datasets, or semantic models in Power BI. Experience with SQL, relational databases, data querying, or data validation. Experience working with data engineering, transformation, integration, data pipelines, or data quality processes. Experience supporting, training, or enabling end users on technical platforms or reporting tools. Exposure to governance, deployment, version control, or lifecycle management practices for data or reporting solutions. Professional software development experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Must be able to work in a collaborative team environment. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Understanding of relational data concepts, data quality, and reporting support practices. Other Requirements and Factors:
Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system. This role may require working outside of standard office hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support the demands of technology services and ensure the seamless operation of essential systems. This position is security sensitive. This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
