We're on a journey to transform our BI landscape, and this role is critical to that mission. Our current environment includes multiple SQL Servers and varied, often inconsistent data sources. While the dashboards may not yet reflect a modern, sleek design, there's a significant opportunity to build order from complexity and drive real improvements. The ideal candidate is someone who is not only proficient in Power BI and DAX but also excels in data modeling and can navigate a challenging data environment. Job Overview Responsibilities may include:
Database & Data Modeling:
Develop, document, and maintain databases on SQL Server and Azure. Analyze and integrate distributed data sources, even when faced with inconsistent naming conventions and fragmented documentation. Design master tables that consolidate data into a coherent framework.BI Tool Administration & Governance:
Enhance and maintain Power BI dashboards that effectively communicate insights to a diverse audience. Write and optimize complex SQL and DAX queries to support robust reporting and analytics. Support our ongoing transition to the cloud by leveraging Azure, Fabric, and related Microsoft technologies, including Power Apps, Power Automate, pipelines, and forms.ETL and Data Management:
Implement ETL processes to consolidate data from various sources, ensuring data integrity and reliability despite initial challenges. The architecture followed is the medallion method, ideally for modular and scalable data foundations, which is going to be continued in the cloud.Documentation & Process Improvement:
Develop clear documentation for data sources, processes, and system relationships. Collaborate with business analysts and use Jira for structured ticket-based development, ensuring that evolving business requirements are accurately captured and addressed.Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with cross-functional teams to bridge the gap between technical complexities and business needs. Provide clear communication on data challenges and propose pragmatic solutions to stakeholders. Mentor colleagues on best practices in BI, data modeling, and dashboard design.Training & Mentorship:
Educate internal teams on BI products and emerging cloud tools within the Microsoft ecosystem. Share expertise to help foster a more data-driven culture across the organization.Data Governance :
Understanding of data security levels. Understanding data types. Assist with creating standards for data and database objects. Work with the team to create templates for reporting.Basic Requirements:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer. 5 or more years of experience with database development and data visualization. Proficiency in SQL Server, Power BI, and DAX. Strong data modeling expertise with the ability to synthesize disparate data sources into a unified model. Willingness to embrace a cloud-first strategy and adapt to evolving BI technologies. Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating technical challenges to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. A collaborative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and process documentation. A proactive approach to problem solving, recognizing that while challenges exist, they also present opportunities for growth and innovation.Preferred Qualifications:
Python experience is a plus for advanced data manipulation and automations tasks. Experience with Azure, Microsoft Fabric, and related tools (Power Apps, Power Automate, pipelines, and forms) is highly desirable.Physical Demands & Competencies:
