Power BI Developer - Lead (Level 3) (Chicago, IL, 60680) | 05/27/26 Job Description Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models to support business decision-making.
- Develop interactive visualizations, dashboards, and KPI scorecards using Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
- Build and optimize tabular data models using Analysis Services (Azure/SSAS) aligned with enterprise data warehouse standards.
- Connect to various data sources (SQL, APIs, cloud platforms, flat files), and perform data ingestion, transformation, and modeling using Power Query (M).
- Write and optimize advanced DAX calculations for complex business logic, time intelligence, and performance tuning.
- Implement data security best practices, including Row-Level Security (RLS), Object-Level Security (OLS), and governance policies.
- Develop, publish, and manage reports in Power BI Service, including workspace management, app deployment, and scheduled refreshes.
- Optimize report performance through data model tuning, query optimization, and efficient visualization design.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
- Design and document data architecture, data flows, and reporting solutions following best practices.
- Work with cloud-based data platforms such as Azure (Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Data Lake, Fabric) for end-to-end BI solutions.
- Integrate Power BI with other applications using Power BI Embedded, REST APIs, and automation workflows.
- Ensure data quality, consistency, and governance across reporting environments.
- Perform prototyping, requirement analysis, and solution design for BI initiatives.
- Work closely with data engineering and analytics teams to support modern data platform architectures (Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Fabric).
- Maintain version control and deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps or similar tools.
- Stay updated with latest Power BI features, including AI visuals, Copilot, real-time analytics, and Fabric integration. Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3-5 years of strong experience in Power BI (Desktop & Service)
- Degree in Computer Science / IT, Engineering, Data Analytics / Data Science, Mathematics / Statistics
- Proficiency in DAX, Power Query (M), and data modeling concepts (star schema, normalization/denormalization)
- Solid knowledge of SQL and relational databases
- Experience with Azure ecosystem (ADF, Synapse, Data Lake, Fabric preferred)
- Understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines
- Experience implementing data security and governance frameworks
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric / Lakehouse architecture
- Exposure to Python or R for advanced analytics
- Knowledge of Big Data technologies (Spark, Databricks)
- Experience in Agile/Scrum environments
