Job Description

This recruitment is only open to current County of San Bernardino, Fire Department, or Special District employees who hold a regular, intern, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, or Work Experience Program (WEX) position. Former PSE, WEX, or interns are eligible to apply up to 6 months from the end of their assignment.

  • The Department of Innovation and Technology is recruiting for a IT Public Safety Communications Chief
  • who will serve on the Executive Management Team.
The incumbent will be responsible for implementing and leading strategic direction in the areas of enterprise infrastructure and support, technology licensing, budgeting, and end user support. Duties include planning, organizing, and managing information technologies for County Departments receiving computer services; evaluating staffing needs and assigning personnel to teams; and reviewing systems development by teams for feasibility and optimal effectiveness in meeting users' needs. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Pre-Employment Proces s: Prior to appointment, candidate must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam.
Travel:
Travel throughout the County may be required. Employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.
Sponsorship:
San Bernardino County is unable to consider candidates who require Visa sponsorship at the time or in the future. Candidates must be able to present their legal right to work in the United States. Candidates MUST possess the required education and experience in ALL of the following areas to qualify.
EXPERIENCE
Four (4) years of full-time equivalent experience, within the last six (6) years, planning, organizing, and implementation of information technology programs and projects, which includes supervising staff engaged in systems administration and performing analysis of computer and network operations. Must include experience in four (4) of the five (5) following areas: Enterprise Infrastructure Systems Management Data Center-Infrastructure Services Management Project Management/Business Requirements Analysis Strategic Technology Planning Feasibility & Cost/Benefit Analysis
MANAGEMENT
Three (3) years full-time equivalent experience in management or higher overseeing diverse IT teams across multiple technological functions within an a large organization. Experience may be concurrent.
EDUCATION
A Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college/university in computer science, information technology, data processing or a closely related field.
Substitution:
Two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.

Possess excellent communication skills Have the ability to create a cooperative organizational environment Be open to change and involvement in implementing new ideas Have a proven track record in implementing and maintaining IT solutions Demonstrate and perform mentoring to subordinate managers and supervisors
