East West Bank is seeking a highly motivated Data Governance Specialist to support the development and operationalization of the bank's enterprise data governance program. This role will help establish governance standards, improve data quality and transparency, and enable trusted, compliant, and well-managed data across the organization. The position will partner closely with business stakeholders, data owners, technology teams, analytics teams, and risk/compliance functions to implement governance processes, data controls, metadata management practices, and data stewardship frameworks supporting the bank's enterprise data strategy. This role is ideal for a hands-on governance practitioner with experience in regulated environments who can balance policy, process, and operational execution while driving enterprise-wide data maturity initiatives. Day-to-Day Responsibilities Support the implementation and ongoing maturation of the bank's enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, procedures, and operating models. Partner with business and technology stakeholders to identify and document Critical Data Elements (CDEs), data ownership and stewardship assignments, business glossaries and data definitions, and data lineage and data flows. Coordinate and facilitate data governance working sessions with business units and technology teams to drive alignment on data standards, issue remediation, and governance priorities. Support the development and maintenance of enterprise data catalogs, metadata repositories, and lineage documentation using governance platforms such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, or Informatica. Assist with the implementation of data quality management processes, including data quality rules and controls, issue identification and remediation workflows, root cause analysis, and data quality scorecards and KPI reporting. Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, and architecture teams to ensure governance controls are embedded within enterprise data pipelines and analytical platforms. Support governance processes related to data classification, sensitive data handling, access governance, data retention and lifecycle management, and regulatory and audit requirements. Develop and maintain governance artifacts, including business glossaries, data dictionaries, stewardship matrices, governance process documentation, and operating procedures and standards. Assist with enterprise data governance reporting and governance council materials, including metrics related to data quality, stewardship adoption, and remediation progress. Participate in regulatory, audit, and risk management activities involving enterprise data controls and governance processes. Partner with business stakeholders to improve data literacy and promote adoption of governance best practices across the organization. Support governance enablement initiatives within modern Azure-based data environments, including Azure Data Lake, Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI ecosystems. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or related discipline. 6-8 years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, metadata management, or related enterprise data disciplines, preferably within banking or other regulated industries. Strong understanding of core data governance concepts, including data ownership and stewardship, metadata management, data lineage, data quality management, and business glossaries and data dictionaries. Experience supporting enterprise governance programs using governance and metadata management tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, or Informatica Data Governance/Data Quality. Familiarity with enterprise data architecture and modern cloud-based data ecosystems, particularly within Azure-centric environments. Experience working with structured data and relational databases, including foundational SQL knowledge for data analysis and validation activities. Understanding of banking regulatory and compliance considerations related to data governance, including data privacy, auditability, and risk management principles. Experience facilitating cross-functional collaboration between business, technology, analytics, and governance stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify governance gaps and support remediation efforts. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing governance documentation and executive-ready reporting materials. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple governance initiatives and priorities simultaneously. Preferred Qualifications Master's or PhD in a quantitative discipline. Experience within commercial banking, risk management, regulatory reporting, AML/BSA, finance, or enterprise analytics functions. Familiarity with regulatory and governance frameworks such as
BCBS 239, SR
11-7, CCAR, CECL, and
DAMA-DMBOK
principles. Experience supporting enterprise data quality programs and remediation initiatives. Exposure to Azure-based data platforms including Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric. Experience supporting governance initiatives for AI/ML or advanced analytics environments. Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and governance integration within modern data engineering workflows. Professional certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), Collibra Ranger/Steward certifications, Microsoft Purview certifications, or DAMA-related certifications. Compensation The base pay range for this position is USD $115,000.00/Yr. - USD $175,000.00/Yr. Exact offers will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
