Job Description
Our historic building preservation and restoration company has been in business for over 32 years and has many repeat customers. The company started out very small but has grown. Unfortunately, the business is still being operated like a mom-and-pop establishment, much as it was in the beginning. The owner wants to reform the operations into a conventional operating system so he and his wife can reduce the hours needed for daily operations. This is uncharted territory for the owner and the right candidate will not be filling a structured role but will have to be innovative in converting operations, patient with both the owner and the 20+ employees and willing to do hands on work to help everyone make the necessary changes. At the moment, there is not a full office staff at the disposal of upper management. Expanding the office staff will be an objective to be discussed, along with the costs associated with it. The owner is nearing retirement in a few years and would like the employees, as well as the clients to have a path forward, even with the owners reduced input. Candidates must have experience in construction management. Experience in historic preservation and/or restoration is a plus. College credentials in history, construction management, architecture and/or business management apply. Armed force service members are encouraged to apply. Candidates will be required to put in the time necessary to interact with the field employees, meet with the owner and office staff and work on end of day communications so that all are on board for the next day. We have a lot of contracts and are affected by weather, jobsite conditions and the additional work frequently requested by the clients. We usually take weekends off but early mornings and late afternoons are not uncommon during the warm months. If successful, bonuses and salary increases will apply.
