Job Description

The city is looking for an IT Technician ready to thrive in a fast-paced environment supporting critical technology needs across Police, Fire, and city operations. Under the direction of the assigned administrator, the Information Technology Technician assists in maintaining computer hardware and software. This position is responsible for troubleshooting issues relating to computer hardware and software, non-computer-related devices, and setting up new computer systems, new users, and workstations as needed. The following list of functions, duties, and tasks is typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform other closely related or department-specific functions, duties, and tasks from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Installs, configures, troubleshoots, upgrades, and repairs workstations and peripheral devices, network hardware and software, video, sound, and communications equipment, and related systems. Sets up email addresses and boxes, establishes security codes, reads, interprets, and applies technical information from manuals, drawings, schematics, and specifications. Assists in the development of plans for technology improvements, replacements, and upgrades. Provides technical assistance and computer training to system users. Maintain records of computer problems, complaints, and resolutions. Prepares for and covers city council meetings in the media booth. Trains and provides guidance to new employees as needed. Assist in overall cyber security, compliancy and network planning.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:
Computer hardware installation, replacement, and repair Computer operating and application software includes but is not limited to, MS Windows, Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, and Photoshop Operating characteristics of information systems equipment, including host computers, printers, storage systems, controllers/multiplexers, communication switches, scanners, PC workstations/terminals, and related peripheral devices Principles of architecture, maintenance, and operation of digital computers and electrical systems Skills and Abilities to: Maintain the confidentiality of information Read and understand schematics, technical instructions and technical manuals, journals, literature, and related documents Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines Understand and respond to the public's and staff's requests for assistance both on the phone and in person Prepare reports, perform mathematical calculations, count money, and sort or file document Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation Relate well, communicate, and work effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders who represent a range of ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds ( At time of application and in addition to the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed above .)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate Degree in computer science or a related field and two (2) years of network information technology experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, abilities, and skills is qualifying. LICENSE(S)
REQUIRED
Valid, current driver's license and a good driving record ( Must be performed with or without reasonable accommodations ) This position works primarily in an indoor office environment. Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Medium Work:
Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally (up to 1/3 of workday), and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of workday), and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly (2/3 or more of workday) to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
