The Opportunity:
The Sheetmetal Programmer is responsible for creating, developing, and managing CNC programs for sheet metal processes. This role focuses on precision, efficiency, and the ability to interpret complex drawings and specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Create and maintain CNC programs for sheet metal operations including laser cutting, turret punching, and press brake forming. Interpret technical drawings, 3D models, and specifications to ensure accuracy in fabrication. Develop flat patterns and apply bend allowances using sheet metal CAD/CAM software i.e. 4ie. Generate efficient nests for laser/punch machines to reduce material waste and optimize production. Select and set up appropriate tooling for press brake operations, considering material type, thickness, and part geometry. Produce detailed setup sheets and work instructions for operators. Simulate and validate sheet metal programs for accuracy and conformance to design. Collaborate with engineers and fabrication teams to ensure manufacturability and design intent. Mentor and support junior employees and apprentices in programming techniques and best practices. Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes to improve quality, throughput, and material usage. Work closely with production teams to resolve programming and fabrication issues. Maintain accurate records of programming changes, revisions, and job history.
Required Qualifications:
Proficient in offline programming for CNC sheet metal machinery (laser, punch, press brake). Skilled in using CAD/CAM software. Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication principles. Experience in tool selection and machine setup for bending/forming operations. High level of accuracy and attention to detail in program creation. Sound understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T. Ability to identify and resolve sheet metal manufacturing issues. Strong documentation and communication skills. Capable of mentoring junior team members and apprentices. Committed to meeting production timelines and quality targets. Demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset and problem-solving approach. Maintains a safe, clean, and organised working environment.
