Manufacturing Full Job Description Summary:
A Wire EDM Machinist job involves Mastercam programming, program selection, setting up, and operating Mitsubishi and Sodick wire EDM machines to precisely cut and shape metal parts, requiring strong technical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of machining principles.
  • Programming in Mastercam o Fully knowledgeable in programming and defining parameters to make high precision parts with tolerances ranging from ±0.0002 to ±0.001
Program Selection and Setup:
o Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications. o Setting up and adjusting machine parameters for optimal performance. o Selecting appropriate wire electrode for hole popper and Wire EDM fixtures.
    Operation and Monitoring:
    o Operating wire EDM machines to produce parts according to specifications. o Monitoring the EDM machining process to ensure accuracy and quality. o Identifying and addressing potential problems or issues during operation.
      Inspection and Quality Control:
      o Performing precision measurements and quality inspections of machined parts. o Verifying dimensions, alignments, and clearances using measuring instruments. o Ensuring that parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
        Maintenance and Safety:
        o Maintaining machines and equipment in safe and efficient working conditions. o Following safety procedures and regulations. o Keeping the work area clean and organized.
          Other Duties:
          o Collaborating with engineers, toolmakers, and other team members. o Participating in continuous improvement initiatives. o Providing support for other machining processes.
          Qualifications:
          • High School Graduate or equivalent.
          • 5 - 10 years of solid experience in set-up and operation of wire EDM machine.
          • Ability to work from complex drawings with close tolerances.
          • Experience with low volume, high mix production
          • Ability to interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
          • Experience with gages and measuring equipment.
          • Must have own tools (e.
          g. micrometers, calipers, depth micrometer, etc.)
          Physical Demands:
          • Work may require sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods, primarily on level surfaces.
          • Activities may involve reaching above shoulder height, below waist level, and lifting as needed to process or store materials.
          • Proper lifting techniques are required. Lifting to 50 pounds may be necessary on occasion. Pushing or pulling with a maximum force of up to 150 pounds may also be required.
          • This position requires working in a manufacturing environment, with exposure to ambient room temperatures, standard lighting, and traditional manufacturing equipment.
          • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including safety glasses with side shields; hearing protection may be required under certain conditions.
          Pay:
          $30.00 - $33.00 per hour
