Structural Detailer & Programmer 1

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Structural Detailer & Programmer 1 is a critical member of the Engineering team at LaX Industries, responsible for the accurate translation of customer-supplied drawings and specifications into detailed 3D CAD models, fabrication-ready 2D shop drawings, and optimized machine programming paths to support efficient production in the metal fabrication facility. This position focuses on generating high-quality CAD documentation and CNC-compatible programs that ensure precise manufacturing of structural steel components and assemblies while meeting project schedules and quality standards. Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following: Develop accurate 3D models and associated part/assembly drawings in SolidWorks in accordance with company drafting standards, AISC guidelines, and project specifications. Create and modify detailed 2D shop drawings and fabrication prints utilizing DraftSight or equivalent 2D CAD software, incorporating all necessary dimensions, tolerances, weld symbols, material specifications, and assembly instructions. Generate machine programming paths, nesting layouts, and CNC code for plasma cutting, drilling, punching, and other fabrication processes based on approved models and drawings. Set up and organize projects using predefined templates maintain drawing files, revisions, and project documentation to facilitate efficient team collaboration and workflow. Perform self-checks and limited peer reviews of shop drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with customer requirements and internal standards; escalate discrepancies or complex issues to the Process Engineer. Collaborate with project managers, estimators, production supervisors, and other engineering disciplines to resolve design conflicts, incorporate changes, and align drawings, bills of material, and production schedules. Participate in on-the-job training programs to build proficiency in quality control procedures, metal fabrication processes (including welding, cutting, forming, and machining), and advanced use of detailing software such as Tekla Structures or PowerFab. Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to streamline detailing and programming workflows. Perform other duties as assigned by the Process Engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Representing the company in a professional matter. An AAS Degree in CAD Design, Structural or Architectural Design/Drafting or equivalent work experience. 0-5 years of work experience in structural drafting, CAD design, or related field. Experience with SolidWorks. Experience with 2D design software such as Draftsight. Capable of operating with minimal supervision. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with others. Customer focused orientation to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction (internal and external) for services provided. Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future. Preferred Basic understanding of metals, material processing and other disciplines used in the metal fabrication industry such as welding, plasma cutting, bending, and machining. Experience with Tekla PowerFab. Experience with Tekla Structures. Working Conditions Mostly Office environment with occasional shop floor exposure.

Pay:
$24.00 - $28.00 per hour
