Controls Programmer Job Description:
The Controls Programmer develops, tests, and commissions PLC and HMI automation systems while supporting electrical design, troubleshooting, startup, and customer support activities for industrial control projects, including coordination with engineering teams, vendors, fabrication shops, and customers to ensure successful project execution and system performance. Primary Responsibilities Develop and test HMI screen applications using AB and other software. Develop, test, and tune PLC applications using AB and other software. Maintain company standards in all aspects including drawing, fabrication, programming, and quality standards. Assist with coordination of project schedules with fab shops, vendors, purchasing, and customers. Coordinate project details between engineering department, customers, and outside control companies. Occasionally visit customer plants to document existing controls equipment. Visit local fab shops and field installations as necessary to coordinate and assist with wiring details, check progress, confirm quality, and verify completeness. Travel to project sites for equipment commissioning and complete start-up tasks including IO check, washing cycle testing/tuning, production cycle testing/tuning, etc. Provide on-site and remote technical support, tuning, and other troubleshooting activities as necessary.
Secondary Responsibilities:
Generate electrical drawings including control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, network drawings, etc. using AutoCAD software. Generate control component BOMs and wiring pull lists using Microsoft office software. Assemble and test control panels and related hardware. Wire, terminate, IO check and test skid assemblies and field installations.
