Job Description

Summary As a team member of Ahtna's Land Department, the Field Support Technician (FST) performs a broad range of tasks associated with the support and execution of fieldwork operations. These tasks will include organizing project logistics, preparing equipment for use, and assisting with field operations. Most of this work will be done outdoors. The pay rate for this position is: $24.89/hour - $29.74/hour. Position Location:
Based in Glennallen, AK, with project assignments in various locations across the Ahtna region. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Support field operations Assist in planning and organizing project logistics Prepare trucks, trailers, ATVs, snowmobiles, and boats for use Perform routine maintenance and field repairs as necessary Inventory, organize, and maintain tools, supplies, and equipment in the office and workshop Coordinate with maintenance personnel Participate in field operations, including: Land Protection Enforcement & Compliance special operations Construction and maintenance projects, including cabins, trails, and informational signs Forestry projects, including land clearing, fuel breaks, and habitat enhancement Biological and environmental studies Collection and issuing of Land Use Permits Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A minimum of two years of experience in the following areas: Remote construction, research camp, trail crew, commercial fishing or subsistence activities Power boat operation on rivers ATV/snowmobile/boat repairs and maintenance Ability to operate GPS navigation equipment Ability to safely operate an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), snow machine, and motorized river boat Proficient in loading, hauling, and backing trailers Preferred Qualifications Experience with ANCSA, ANILCA, and Alaska land use patterns Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures Vocational certification in mechanical or marine trades Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder Certification Wildland Fire Incident Qualification "Red" Card

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. We expect the person in this position to be a self-starter capable of working independently or as a team member while accepting varied and changing responsibilities in the job. They will effectively communicate both orally and in writing. They must exhibit strong time management and organizational skills to effectively schedule and prioritize weekly workflow assignments to develop solutions for problem-solving. The individual will also be available to work evenings and weekends when needed. These are in addition to the Core Competencies listed in the Employee Handbook that all employees are expected to demonstrate. Physical Demands Frequent sitting, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 4 hours; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Work performed in a professional office setting utilizes phones, computers, and other office equipment. Work performed outdoors will include exposure to extreme weather conditions. It will require strenuous hiking over arduous terrain and carrying loads up to 50 pounds. It will also include field work by truck, ATV, snow machine, boat, and/or airplane. Forms of transportation can be bumpy and can cause whole-body vibrations, jarring, and awkward movements. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described in this job description are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties and responsibilities of this job. The employee will be working in and out of doors and will be subject to wilderness conditions, confined spaces, changes in temperature, weather conditions, and noise levels.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts (Workdays/hours may vary depending on the needs of the organization, and occasional overtime may apply.) Experience Required 2 year(s):
  • Valid Driver's License
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the following areas: o Remote construction, research camp, trail crew, commercial fishing or subsistence activities o Power boat operation on rivers o ATV/snowmobile/boat repairs and maintenance
  • Ability to operate GPS navigation equipment
  • Ability to safely operate an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), snowmobile, and motorized river boat
