As part of our team, you will apply sound engineering judgment, collaborate across disciplines, and deliver impactful civil conveyance solutions that meet both technical and regulatory demands. Key Responsibilities With general supervision, plans, evaluates, and designs basic to moderate‑complexity civil pipeline and conveyance projects supporting water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. Project experience may include treatment facilities, water distribution systems, sanitary and storm sewer networks, lead service line programs, pump stations, remediation sites, and related infrastructure. Performs engineering calculations, data analysis, and technical reporting for drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater utility projects, including resiliency initiatives, collection systems, drainage, flood management, outfalls, wetlands, stormwater management, and sewer rehabilitation. May support water quality analyses and hydraulic or system modeling activities as required. Conducts site reviews and field studies to confirm design assumptions, assess existing conditions, and ensure designs align with site‑specific requirements. Updates design criteria and technical approaches as project conditions evolve. Prepares technical specifications, engineering reports, and front‑end contract documents for publicly bid design projects. Reviews plans, designs, and reports to ensure compliance with client requirements, firm standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Supports regulatory compliance programs, with a focus on stormwater and MS4 initiatives, and ensures firm quality, safety, and design practices are consistently applied across all deliverables. Manages or supports assessment and design efforts in a client‑facing role, with the ability to function as a Task Manager or Project Technical Leader on assigned projects. Contributes to the firm's technical knowledge base through development of white papers, design guidance, and documentation of specialized or innovative solutions. May author or co‑author papers for technical journals and industry publications. Collaborates with business development teams to support proposals and responses to RFPs, engages with current and prospective clients to understand technical needs, and participates in conferences and industry events to enhance CDM Smith's visibility and thought leadership. Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, reviews their work for quality and completeness, and supports their professional growth within the discipline. May oversee junior staff on assigned project tasks. Performs other duties as required. #LI-JR1 Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Professional engineering (PE) license. 7 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Amount of Travel Required 10% Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of computer‑aided design and drafting tools, including 3D and 4D modeling practices, with the ability to interpret and apply design outputs effectively. Solid understanding of core engineering principles and their practical application to infrastructure and facility design. Proficient in standard business and technical software, including Microsoft Excel and Word, for data analysis, documentation, and reporting. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to project teams, clients, and stakeholders. Demonstrated understanding of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, with the ability to incorporate regulatory requirements into engineering designs and project deliverables.
