Full Job Description Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated IT Specialist to support and maintain the technology systems of our health center. This role is critical in ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient IT operations that support patient care, clinical workflows, and administrative functions. The ideal candidate will have experience working in healthcare environments and a strong understanding of data privacy and compliance requirements such as HIPAA.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, and maintain computers, servers, and network systems across the health center Provide technical support for clinical and administrative staff, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues Support and maintain Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and other healthcare applications Ensure data security, system integrity, and compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA) Manage user accounts, permissions, and secure access to sensitive patient information Monitor system performance and implement upgrades or patches as needed Perform regular data backups and test disaster recovery procedures Assist in maintaining secure wireless and wired networks for medical devices and staff use Document IT procedures, system configurations, and support activities Coordinate with external vendors for system support and upgrades
Required Qualifications:
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience) Experience in IT support, preferably in a healthcare or clinical setting Strong knowledge of operating systems (Windows, macOS) and basic server management Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems Knowledge of healthcare data privacy and security standards (HIPAA compliance)
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ Experience with healthcare IT systems and medical device connectivity Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure) Knowledge of cybersecurity practices specific to healthcare environments
Key Skills:
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities Excellent communication skills, especially when working with non-technical healthcare staff High level of attention to detail and confidentiality Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment
Work Environment:
On-site role within a clinical or health center setting May require occasional after-hours or on-call support for critical systems Interaction with healthcare providers, administrative staff, and third-party vendors Physical demands/EnvironmentWorking Conditions The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The position also requires walking through entire facility to complete repairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Travel within the state of Connecticut may be required periodically for training. Availability via cell phone is required for emergencies during off duty time.
