  • Manage and maintain the enterprise wired network infrastructure, including hardware installation, software updates, and firmware updates to keep infrastructure current and secure.

  • Manage and maintain the network security infrastructure, including firewall configuration modifications, intrusion detection, and incident response.
  • Manage and maintain critical network services such as DHCP, DNS, and web servers.
  • Establish and enforce network hardware and operating system standards to ensure efficient management and compliance with industry best practices.
  • Implement preventative measures to ensure high availability, robust security, and optimal data flow across all network technologies.
  • Manage and maintain the VOIP network, ensuring continuous service, and assisting with phone provisioning and voicemail support.
  • Manage and maintain enterprise firewalls through network segmentation (VLANs) and rule configurations to protect campus stakeholders and devices.
  • Maintain comprehensive institutional knowledge for network and server infrastructure, including network diagrams, documentation, and change management procedures.
  • Provide expert consultation on network design for all construction projects to ensure technology is seamlessly integrated.
  • Follows and implements directives and guidance related to best practices from University of Hawai'i System Information Technology Services.
  • Ensures the consistent adoption, implementation, and enforcement of recommendations issued through University of Hawai'i System Information Technology Services.
  • Keeps abreast of recommendations issued through University of Hawai'i System Information Technology Services and takes timely action as needed.
  • Continuously monitor and lead initiatives to enhance system reliability, security, and operational efficiency.
Supervise and mentor IT staff to assure that administrative directives and industry best practices are understood and followed. Assist with the management and maintenance of enterprise server infrastructure that includes installing operating systems, user maintenance, access control through permissions, and disaster management. Collaborate with stakeholders to design and propose new network services or modify existing ones to meet business needs. Understand and integrate campus-specific services with university-wide environments and services including on-premises and cloud services. Collaborate with the IT Server Manager on server infrastructure design to optimize local, virtual, and cloud-based services for resilience and security. Plan for network technology upgrades and develop proposals for a cyclic replacement plan based on appropriate bids. Develop network security strategies with colleagues to ensure all connected devices have appropriate security levels based on their function. Collaborate effectively with other IT staff to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Troubleshoot and resolve network and server infrastructure complaints to meet IT service level agreements. Coordinate with stakeholders within the university and non-university when there are elements that are specific to campus due to campus programs, specialized requirements or unique needs and keep elements within the limits of university systemwide standards and conventions. Effectively teach university student assistants and supervise their assigned projects for their job training as directed by the IT Director. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, or technology related degree and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for data network management or server management and data network security, of which two (2) years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower pay band in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated. Considerable working knowledge of modern network and server infrastructure as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodologies. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with network and server infrastructures. Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluate, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Proven ability to comprehend, interpret and implement administrative directives and guidance to ensure IT operations align with organizational standards and industry best practices. If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
Supplemental Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of design, installation, management, and maintenance of enterprise-class data network equipment such as routers and switches. Demonstrated knowledge of design, installation, and maintenance of Wi-Fi networks in an enterprise environment. Demonstrated knowledge of firewall design, implementation, and management that balances the highest level of security with user services. Be able to use industry standard protocols for securing enterprise environments. Demonstrated knowledge of TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6, LAN/WAN protocols and other network technologies. Knowledge of server operating systems such as Microsoft Windows Server and Linux, and how they work within a secured enterprise network environment where there are different physical hardware, virtual environments, and clouds. Knowledge of server hardware technologies such as server hardware, NAS, and SAN and cloud storage and be able to integrate these technologies in a viable server network infrastructure. Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Apple Macintosh and office productivity suites such as word processors, spreadsheets, and databases. Practical experience in good organizational skills and documenting all work in the change log daily. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas, thoughts, and directives through email, reports, and design plans.
Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of construction projects and can read blueprints to ensure network infrastructure is correctly designed and installed. Certified or practical experience with Arista, Cisco, Aruba network technologies. Certified or practical experience Fortinet firewalls. Knowledge of cloud-based server and storage technologies Knowledge of artificial intelligence's integration into network technologies and security fabrics. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows server services management (i.e. Active Directory, DFS) in addition to the knowledge of providing a secure network Windows servers. Knowledge of VMware virtual systems and be able to design, manage and maintain these systems to create resiliency and security
