Job Description
ERT is seeking an Application Systems Developer / IT Support Specialist to support NOAA's Air Research Laboratory Special Operations and Research Division. This division plays a crucial role in contributing to the safety and efficient operation of the Idaho National Laboratories by producing valuable weather data. These data are gathered from weather stations across the eastern Idaho desert, and used for forecasting, weather modeling, scientific research, and emergency operations. This position will play a pivotal role in developing applications to improve the way weather data are acquired, stored, and disseminated. Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following areas:
Application Development, Maintenance and Improvement
Perform application development to support various scientific tasks that may involve data acquisition, processing, storage and display.
Perform SQL database development, interaction, maintenance, and updates.
Maintain/improve various in-house developed applications, to include troubleshooting.
Employ government-approved AI tools as a collaborative resource to explore optimal coding solutions, while ensuring all AI-generated suggestions are aligned with cybersecurity standards.
IT Support
Set up, maintain, and secure Windows workstations, servers, and scientific computing systems, including Windows Active Directory and CAC authentication.
Conduct weekly vulnerability scans (e.g., Nessus, BigFix), remediate critical/high-risk findings, maintain cross-platform backup systems, and assist with system repair or recovery after compromise.
Provide IT help desk support and assist the ARL IT Manager with troubleshooting, system recovery, and ongoing operational needs.
Support IT procurement, maintain accurate inventories of hardware and software licenses, and assist administrative staff with property audits
Required Skills
10 years of relevant experience
Proficiency in Python for application development or task automation.
Knowledge and experience in scripting languages (Javascript, Windows Batch etc.) and software/application development languages
Knowledge and experience modernizing code.
Demonstrated experience with SQL for querying, managing, and maintaining databases.
Hands-on experience with Windows operating systems, including system administration and software support.
Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge for government facility access.
Desired Skills
Knowledge/experience in web development and SQL database administration

Problem-solving and solution driven
Education
BS in computer science, information system, or related discipline
Location
This position is on-site at NOAA's Air Research Laboratory in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $62,000 - 275,000/year. This range is a good faith estimate based on similar roles across the organization. ERT considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including the location, scope, and associated responsibilities of the specific position, as well as a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
