East Chicago, IN Cleveland-Cliffs Steel LLC is seeking an experienced Senior IT Applications Engineer to join the Information Technology team supporting the IT Plant Systems area at the Indiana Harbor Plant in East Chicago. This role provides essential IT support for Indiana Harbor's manufacturing applications and subsystems built on MainframeCOBOL/DB2.
Key responsibilities include problem investigation, analysis, design, programming, testing, and malfunction resolution, including participation in off‑hours support. The ideal candidate will have strongCOBOL/DB2
skills, as these technologies form the foundation of the systems supported in this area. Provides timely and effective feedback on customer issues and requests, offering recommendations to improve system stability and reduce recurring support needs. Provides 24×7 on-call support for Indiana Harbor OFS applications and subsystems, including production recording, quality assessment, logistics, conditioning, Reap secondary slab sales, slab applications, and interplant/outside shipping. Follows IT Change Management processes for production changes and maintains documentation to demonstrate compliance. Drives innovation in partnership with the business and supports the development of both online and batch applications. Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Business Information Systems or equivalent work experience 7 or more years of experience inCICS, COBOL, DB2, JCL/JES3
7 or more years of experience with custom development and SDLC processes Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Apps (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, MS Access, Visio) Working knowledge of ServiceNow service management software Other duties as assigned Preferred Qualifications 10+ years exp inCOBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL/JES3
10+ or more years of experience with custom development and SDLC processes 10+ years exp in Project Management; and demonstrated good leadership, communication, organizational and teamwork skills Manufacturing knowledge and experience with the OFS Manufacturing Systems at IH. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 Apps (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, MS Access, Visio) Working knowledge of ServiceNow service management software 2 or more years of experience in a Steel Manufacturing Environment Some experience with OFS at IHE Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. is the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America.
