Job Description
TO ACTIVELY CREATE, FACILITATE AND ENHANCE BENEFITS FROM MARITIME TRANSPORTATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR THE BENEFIT OF ITS CUSTOMERS, STAKEHOLDERS, AND THE CITIZENS OF SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA.
About this Position Serves as the technical lead by administering and maintaining Information Technology / Computer Network Systems for the Lake Charles Harbor & Terminal District (Port of Lake Charles) and provides advanced technical assistance to the district's 100+ users of the systems. Six years of experience in information technology; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus four years of experience in information technology; OR An associate's degree in information technology plus four years of experience in information technology; OR A bachelor's degree plus four years of experience in information technology; OR A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in an information technology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or business analytics field plus three years of experience in information technology; OR A master's degree plus three years of experience in information technology.EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.NOTE:
A certification in an approved area may be substituted for the education and/or experience requirements at the time of hire or promotion, provided the appointment is made from a Certificate of Eligibles. Job Duties As an IT Specialist , this position supports and maintains enterprise technology systems, networks, and infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure operations across the organization.This position will:
Provide advanced technical support for hardware, software, network, and system-related issues, including troubleshooting and resolution of complex incidents escalated beyond Tier 1 support Install, configure, and maintain servers, workstations, and enterprise systems, including virtual environments (e.g., VMware vSphere, Hyper-V) Administer and support network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems Monitor system performance and perform routine maintenance activities such as patching, backups, and system updates Manage user accounts, Active Directory, and access controls in accordance with security policies Support backup and disaster recovery processes to ensure data integrity and system availability Utilize monitoring tools to identify performance issues and proactively prevent service disruptions Assist with LAN/WAN design, configuration, and optimization, including VLANs and network segmentation Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures Collaborate with IT staff, vendors, and leadership on system improvements and technical projects Guide lower-level staff and assist with training as needed Research and recommend technology solutions to improve efficiency, security, and scalabilityPosition-Specific Details Appointment Type:
